Looking for job in Alberta

If a truck driver is unemployed in canada right now, he/she either doesn't WANT to work, they aren't looking, or they are so bad that they are unemployable.

 

I also said "under employed"...you know what that means right...

 

If by "under employed" you mean that they don't get enough hours/days per week/month, again, there are LOTS of trucks sitting losing work because there's nobody to drive them. If you mean they are not making enough money per month, again, they aren't looking or just don't want to work. The trucks that I know of that are sitting due to lack of a driver are well paying jobs.

 

In Alberta there's lots of good paying jobs in the Oil Patch, but there's also many poor paying jobs. When highway guys ALL make 80K and up then I'll start to believe there is a shortage until then it's a myth.

 

My point is that there are lots of high paying jobs in the oil patch and many are going unfilled due to lack of drivers so, if a driver is hauling somewhere for peanuts or if a driver is sitting unemployed, it's not for a lack of good paying jobs and if trucks are sitting, not from a lack of work but from a lack of drivers, THAT's a driver shortage. If current residents aren't willing to fill those positions then bring in immigrants that ARE willing to fill them.

 

part of the problem is that some of these larger companys are so crappy and have such a bad reputation that most drivers have heard of them and wont work for them
in canada--especially western canada the trucking world is a small place---either you have worked for them--or know somebody who has--and some of these bad reps have been passed down from father to son in these companies
