Hello,
I'm not a truck driver, I'm a film/TV guy. I'd like to do a documentary about a truckstop. I am looking for one that is run by very colorful characters. I've read about Rube's in NY - is it still as crazy as it used to be? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Two choices come to mind ...
Travel Centers of America in Jessup, MD.
Now, some people would not say this qualifies as a truck stop but the South of the Border complex in Dillon, SC.teammemberrich and BIG RIGGER Thank this. -
Check out Gunsmoke Travel Plaza in Buena Vista, CO. It's not really dysfunctional but there's plenty of characters and a very nice setting for a movie/tv show.
teammemberrich Thanks this. -
That would be a great place for a horror movie because all of the buildings, abandoned amusement park rides, etc.
-
Thanks everyone, for all these ideas.
I also got some suggestions of good truck stops to look at from another source; 3 Sisters in Fontana, CA; Jubitz in Portland, OR; Butler Scales in Lancaster, PA; 49er's in Sacramento, CA. Would anyone agree or disagree with those suggestions for truck stops with good characters and crazy atmosphere?
Thanks again,
Rich -
Oh god, that remote tiger truck stop out in the desert off I-10. Has an old tiger cage. I think I have been the only one there since 1950!

How 'bout the Walt Whitman T/S in Philly? I never could find that place. From what I hear, that's probably a good thing.

Pretty sure the Whitman in Philly has been closed for some time, I asked a hand on the radio once where it was two years ago and he said it was closed up.
