@Chinatown I could use some more names.. and FYI it sounds like Dixon doesn’t hire anyone less than 2yrs experience because of insurance. The guy I talked to said “times have changed”. Also would be interested in flatbeds. Thanks for the help

A little secret about trucking (that's also true about other industries) is that trucking companies can and sometimes do hire people with less experience than advertised, but they only make exceptions for exceptional candidates. That means if your experience level doesn't meet the company's stated requirements, but you only go so far as to apply online or call the recruiter, they're going to turn you down. If, however, you make yourself stand out, they just might take notice. A good way to do that is to show up at the terminal out of which you'd like to work and ask to speak to the terminal manager (that's the person who hires the drivers.) A tucked-in shirt with sleeves and a collar along with some decent pants will probably be enough, but I have seen a driver show up in a suit and tie before--he got the job less than a week after getting his CDL, even though the company (a hazmat tanker hauler) required two years experience. Be prepared to be interviewed on the spot, and also be ready for a pretrip/driving test if they like what they hear in the interview. It does work, and I have seen it happen a few times to some people who proved themselves to be better than average drivers.

Every trucking company knows that there are plenty of drivers out there, but *good* drivers are a surprisingly rare commodity and they are always in demand. Another thing that often gets overlooked by drivers, though not by people who hire drivers, is that experience isn't always a good thing. Most drivers collect some bad habits along with their experience, and correcting a bad habit is ten times harder than teaching a good habit from the start. Smart companies realize that rookies haven't had enough time yet to accrue many bad habits and are therefore still trainable and can be taught from the beginning to do things the way the company wants them done. Don't let lack of experience discourage you from going after a job that you want, even if on paper you don't meet the requirements. Demonstrate to them that you're serious and maybe they'll take you seriously.
