Hey guys, Total newbie here, In Chicago. I'm looking to go for Company paid training as I am completely new to the truck driving industry and I cannot afford Truck school. I looked at swift and they seemed like a great option but thank god I ran into this forum. So far I think Roehl is a good choice but I'm not sure if they are still doing their training program. Any other suggestions you guys may have I know Schneider isn't doing it anymore either. Thanks!

i am from the great state of illionois also, the problem with being in illinois is that its the hardst state to get your CDL in. when i went to get my CDL i looked into going to a company paid school, most dont take illinois residents. the reason i was told is because with most schools you get your CDL in that state ( whever the company school is located Rohel is in wisconsin) and you transfer your CDL over to your home state. Illinois does not allow you to just transfer your CDL from the other state to illinois, you have to take all the tests again, yard skills, driving, and pre-trip. i was told its just to much of a hassle to go through for the company trainer. o took the route of going to school and had the goverment pay for it through the WIA grant program. if you go that route, i highly recomend Eagle Training Services in Lake in the Hills, i am not sure where you are from but they are a great school.

Agreed with Curlyjoe06. I was sold on Stevens Transport who gave me a prehire back in June. I couldn't start until September which they said would be fine, and when I called them this month they told me they are no longer hiring out of IL. I'm currently working with Eagle Training and Progressive through the WIA act, just deciding on which school is better. If the WIA wasn't an option, then I would probably go to Roehl as well. F.Y.I, Roehl IS STILL paying for training for qualified students and as always, the catch is you must work for them for something like a year afterwards. Also, I believe they said you do need to pay $500 upfront for the school. I would lean towards Roehl before Swift, but that's just me, nothing against Swift.

Hey guys just a little update, I contacted Roehl and they told me that they're not willing to train guys out of Illinois, (stupid laws)! However, Millis said they would and from what I've heard hear they seem to be an all around soild company. So I submitted everything to Millis and I'm just waiting for the approval. The only thing about Millis is that you have to give them $500 upfront and they'll take care of the rest, even in getting you licensed in Illinois. Seems like a good deal to me, although I'm gonna have to come up w/ the $500, any Idea where I can get in on the WIA act?
