DDS is a school that has a good 4 week program. I had a good time there. Good people and no pressure. CDL mills usually include the names Swift or CRST. Go to DDS or FVTC. They are both good choices. I am from Wisconsin and went to DDS. I learned a lot and now hold my CDL with a job in Wisconsin. Remember to apply as early as you can to companies. Apply early. Follow all good leads and get your name out there early! DDS was a good experience and I received good instruction there. That is the truth from a recent grad. Private schools are a good choice because teaching you how to drive is what that school does. They don't stack the students up in dorms and treat them like crap. I got a good E book that helped me stay away from all the BS. I could send you if it might help. I made some good friends being there in just 4 weeks. The small group I drove with was awesome. If your gonna put some money on the line you might as well enjoy it. Good luck to you!

I apologize (though it's highly unlikely anyone noticed and/or cared) that I disappeared from my own thread. Some circumstances arose, keeping me away from checking back.

I thank you all for your responses and insights. I suppose it would make more sense to wait until I am 23 or older to attain my CDL, since that seems to be the norm or unofficial standard.

Do you think it would be something to look into to learning how to operate things like cranes, forklifts, things of that nature? Would that at all help with future trucking work?

    Or maybe something like:
    http://www.fvtc.edu/public/academics/degree.aspx?plan=20-458-2

It's teaching you how to drive certain things, but it isn't at all a Trucking Course.

I know there is no "right or wrong" way of doing things in this life, and that it's experiences, both good and bad, that shape you, but I lack these things, which is why I am asking you all. Everyone here seems to have a lot of experience and knowledge, and I am grateful for that, so I figure any external input is good.
