Amazon makes up 1% of business to UPS. UPS was also giving Amazon 70% discount. UPS wasn't even making much off of Amazon, and the deliveries going into some very rural and hard to reach areas were actually costing UPS'S ability to make increasing amount of deliveries without using more drivers. It just wasn't a good deal for UPS, so they jacked up the prices. This is why Amazon is looking to go their own way when it comes to delivery. UPS doesn't need Amazon. And Amazon wants packages delivered for next to nothing.

It depends on what location your applying for. I can only give out information that is already known to the public, so if your applying at a NDC center, you get converted pretty quickly. If you're applying at a P&DC center, it can take years, but with the way Amazon is aggressively starting their own logistics, from air to transportation and package delivery, it's seems all package delivery services, including us, as well as LTL companies have a lot to worry about.

Yeah I agree. I know that Amazon is a small percentage of your account, and that's probally why were contracted to be their delivery service since we charge about 80% less. But now that Amazon is leasing cargo planes from Air Transport, which owns DHL, and using Prolisgics for possible transport, they may purchase them in the future and the ripple affects from this will probally affect us all one way or anouther, form logistical to stocks as well,. They already bought out their own package delivery service overseas, so if Amazon starts their own logistics company, they may possible venture beyond transporting their own merchandise. And if this happens, not only will this affect all package delivery services (UPS, USPS, Fed Ex), it'll probally affect LTL companies as well. One of my coworkers recently received a package from Amazon using their own vans, so it' seems it's already in motion.

USPS is mostly cheaper but it all depends on how and what you're sending. But not by 80% and businesses almost always get huge discounts.

Amazon runs on very thin margins so they really can't afford to pay higher prices on deliveries. This is more or less a desperate attempt a lowering costs because of it.
Amazon'S stock value has taken a huge beating this year too. If their logistics venture isn't a huge success, they won't be in very good shape going forward.

As far as Amazon is concerned, it is 80%. The postal service is a government run service for the public, so it was never ment to make a profit, but it does have to sustain itself. And yeah, I think Amazon might be expanding to quickly. We'll have to see what happens in the future.
