Who manufacturers the lightest reefer trailer? I know there's other factors involved like opinions but just a basic thought. Also, how much more weight would a spread. Thanks guys.

I think Wabash is the lightest and the spread should not be much heavier because you lose the slider and rails and locks and so on. But a 53 foot spread fixed will not be legal in Ca Ct Or Ga.I have a friend that has 2 53ft spreads with 12 foot spreads they really do a good job.He also went with the flat floor and recessed E Track. He will only buy Great Danes with Thermo king units and pulls them with 379 petes so he is a little on the heavy side.

Can buy a lighter one and save a little weight but replace it more often or you can buy a heavier one better made and keep it for a long time .... what is the goal here?

I would say wabash lighter and as far as a spread being lighter no they are generally a little heavier more cross members and two big long beams underneath to handle the stresses and twisting forces when making a turn if you put a spread underneath a regular trailer they usually don't last to long. You want a light weight combo better off getting a light weight tractor that will make a bigger difference in weight then trailer weight. I.e small bunk small light weight motor and tranny no 13spd or 18spd small fuel tanks throw on a aluminum fifth wheel plate. You could get easy 47000 on then but then why haul more for the same amount of dollars. Just like when we went from 73000lbs to 80000lbs and 45s to 48s and now 53 footers and are they making that much more money for you and not just the client you are hauling for?

Never the best idea to buy a trailer b/c it weighs less. But if weight is your only concern. Great Dane, and utility will build you and aluminum floor trailer which brings the weight down and won't compromise your suspension or cross members. All comes at a price$$$.

I do agree with you maybe I shouldn't have said lightest but quality made instead. Safe driving.

Never mind. Thought you were talking dry van. I see you put refer. My fault. Don't buy a cheap refer it will cost you more later on with cheap insulation. I bought two trailers at once, a new utility and a new wabash. Both refer both brand new back in 98. Still have the utility sold wabash b/c didn't hold up as well. It was 682ibs lighter, but the quality was not as good. Whatever you buy, get it b/c you like it.

I'm actually buying both dry and reefer for two new gliders.

My friend just picked up his new 2015 Great Dane 53 foot flat floor with recessed e track and anSB230 unit with the 12 foot spread rear axle all the way back and dump valves on both axles yesterday $77000 kinda of steep don't you think?
