So I have a 2016 Freightliner cascadia DD15 with about 800,000 miles . Last night I had my yellow and red stop engine lights turn on and my truck cut off immediately. I tried to crank it a couple times to get off on the exit and it would shut off in about 30 seconds .
Long story short I had the truck towed to a Freightliner dealer and they said the oil Stand pipe broke and there is no oil in the filter , now they need to inspect the bearings for damage. I take real good care of the truck and she has been running great . No oil or coolant lose and I change my oil every 15,000 miles.
Do you guys think my bearings are shot ? Just think it’s a little premature to have to drop the pan and check the bearings . I pulled over immediately to not cause any further damage . I checked the filters and No metal in oil filter either. crazy to think a $60 stand pipe can cause so much damage ♂️
They are refusing to replace the stand pipe without doing the bearing analysis.
Looking for some advice regarding my Freightliner with low oil pressure

Well, according to FL's own service bulletin, there is no inspection of the lower end needed. if they are asking to do this as a precaution, that would not be a bad idea, but if they are refusing to replace it, well, call Freightliner customer service and tell them what's going on.

READ the steps and make sure they do them.Rideandrepair and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Now they are telling me I ran the unit for over 4000 seconds with low oil pressure which is a lie.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I don't get why they are refusing. At 800K miles it's not as if there is a warranty involved. They should just do what you pay them to do.
Rideandrepair and Southsidetrucker Thank this. -
The standpipe can and will cause that kind of damage pretty fast it doesn't care how well you maintained it! That being said they should do as there told nothing more.

The 4000 seconds probably came off the computer. Your lights might be a delayed sign. Meaning you lost pressure before the lights. Maybe. I don't know how the system is designed.
Anytime you lose presssure. Damage is immediate. The crank being the closest to the pump will be first. The entire motor requires pump pressure. All the way to the top. -
I would call Freightliner and complain, call customer service to see why they will not repair the truck.
I would also get a dump of the ECM to have them PROVE that the truck was run for 4000 seconds, which is 66 minutes of run time without oil.
do they think you are a moron?hope not dumb twucker and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I'd say there is about a 90% chance you need a bottom-end rebuild.
little cat 500 Thanks this. -
Like you said it might not have been an instantaneous shutdown as soon as the ECM detected lost oil pressure. The fact OP overrode the shutdown at least once I'd be leary about there not being at least some accelerated wear.
I would still ask them for a printout to confirm 4000 seconds of low oil pressure. That part doesn't add up to me.Rideandrepair and snowwy Thank this.
