It's doing pretty well actually, I know it got off to a rough start but we're really ramping up now. I'll be getting 2367 miles on this next check, and 4046 on the next check, so I can't complain at all. Last I heard we were preparing to expand TCD all across Texas, which is excellent news for me since I live there![]()
Looking for some good helpful advice in Maverick

Over all I think they are both top notch companies. -
Yes absolutely, like I said first comment was a joke. As for the reefer, do they let o/o on it yet or strictly company?
-
I guess TCD is their reefer division?
-
Lol yeah, Temp Control Division. They hate the word reefer for some reason lol.
They only have company drivers for TCD. In fact, that's probably the only reason I'd leave Maverick, is when I want to lease a truck. -
Stay away from leasing driver it just holds you down. Save some dough and buy one outright. It's good to hear they treat you good.

Good to know that. I know every company have their good and bad. I liked both tmc and maverick. But i live in central alabama and im right on the edge of that boundary line with tmc to either i would be regional or long haul. They told me regional which is wat i wanted but i just didnt want to take that chance of being forced to run long haul. Ive done my own research but listening to current and former maverick drivers on this and other forums, really helped make my decision easier!

I'm also trying to decide between Maverick and TMC. I live in Southern Illinois and was wondering about the freight lanes through this part of the country for both companies? Also, I'm only wanting to haul flatbed because as a retired Marine I still would like to get some physical work in during the week. The research I've done on both companies seems to be the hometime is rather similar. The one issue I can't find on any of these threads is a good idea of the pay. I would be a new student driver with no experience, but here is what I know. Maverick starts out at .33 cents a mile and increases .3 cents every 3 months and TMC has the Percentage Pay and mileage scale. Now being new, I have no idea which of these would be better for someone living in the freight lanes I do and the minimum mileage I could expect per week (obviously with no break downs or lay overs). A few Maverick drivers have helped me out tremendously and if any of you have answered these questions before I'm sorry, I must have missed your answers. I would like to know that I can bring home at least a minimum $700.00 a week after taxes with either company. Just having a hard time deciding and like I said Maverick drivers have been great answering my questions, would like to maybe hear from some TMC drivers as well. Thanks again for your time and God bless each one of you and safe travels.

I believe students start at 25% with TMC. I always say go with percentage over mileage because their average length of haul is 500 miles or less. There really is no more long haul. You'd be in a great area for TMC or for that matter any company. Being out of the Midwest is a great place to be. Tons of steel mills in Indiana, Chicago area and even into Tennessee. Alcoa is a big customer of ours and they have a big mill in Tennessee and Iowa. You also have a ton of John Deere plants in Iowa, Waterloo davenport and Des Moines. Also bunch of mills in Iowa, caterpillar in Illinois. It's really a perfect location. I live in pa and when I was a company driver averaged around $1200-$1500 a wk take home. That was at 32% but didn't take me long to get there. When they say you can jump from 25% to 30% in a month they aren't lying.

Thanks Polarbear, I really appreciate all the info you have given me. I like their veteran benefits as well. Take care and safe travels.
