Hi all,
Looking to do some driving part time, I'm retired at 54 but still enjoy working. Dont want to be on a schedule with a company, so really make my own hours.
I have done alot of research and the Promaster 2500 seems to be a good all around fit. I live 45 miles south of Boston.
Here is where you come in:
Using Dat, uship and others for my loads, will that give me a load every week?
Any smaller load boards out there?
Seems with this rig I dont need Dot numbers, but would it be better to just apply for them?
Thanks in advance!
Bud
Looking for some guidance, cargo van shipping.

You would hate it. If you have seen Amazon vans pile up and fill parking lots along with fleet working rental vans choking Adesa and other auction lots unsold each week and gaining more unsold vehicles that will not be sold to dealers who simply decided its not worth showing up to move them. Everything is absolute all stop.
For some it's a oppertunity. So if you think you can drive that thing, fill with fuel and have something left over at night for you own dinner and family back home then have at it. Otherwise it's a easy way to make 2 million dollars into a small fortune of 100,000 dollars in this industry.Western flyer and Rhodeislander Thank this. -
Ok,
So not much help here. i will however share what I have found on my own to help anyone else out there that may be looking for a part time gig. I signed up with Dispatch, look like an app based local delivery system like an Uber. I can use the truck I have, no need to buy a van. I'm sure I wont be raking in the money, but for right now it may help. I will update once I get going.

Rhodeislander there is a website called expediteonline devoted to expedite freight . Has cargo van info.

Also there is next to no loads that I ever see listed as cargovan on DAT. Uship yeah there are guys that run there illegal.. but the Uship bid process takes days on a load. It's not something you will get a load the same day 99% of the time. It';s a timed bid process and you are dealing with individuals who aren't professionals so they don't care if they waste your time.
As far as I know for expedited cargovan freight it's very hard to come by that freight and there is a specific loadboard from what I understand that deals with it but it's a very, very expensive loadboard and they supposedly won't accept a new company on there unless you have 6 vans. That's what I was told when I looked at cargo vans.
(I used to do vanlife and I'd love to just run a cargo van and live full time on the road traveling and paying my way with loads but it's just not that easy..)Last edited: Apr 19, 2020
