Why then was the bond raised? It was because the lower amount bonds weren't covering claims.

Not at all. Depending on your credit that Surety Bond is probably going to be your biggest expense. I have excellent credit so got my bond for under 1k. I now have active MC Authority to Broker.

There was a lot of blood (being dramatic), sweat and tears in doing the research and several on-line trainings (I felt like I needed to grasp what logistics meant as a whole until I found my niche) and completing the FMCSA application process (talk about making you want to pull all your hair out :)). However, I applied for both Motor Carrier and Broker so I heard that's why the application I submitted was so lengthy. Depending on the types of things you want to haul etc. will determine how much more time it'll take you to complete all the questions on the app. Please note you don't need to go for everything at once. You're able to add add'l items such as HAZMAT etc at a later time for a small processing fee and sometimes no add'l fee. With it being such a vast industry, you can get overwhelmed quite easily. The great part is ALL that was FREE, just your time.

I can honestly say that I was able to get everything completed for a little over 2k. This also includes the company set-up with Secretary of State (business filing), registered agent, dedicated website/domain and email box for 1 year, FMCSA Application fee, UCR Filing, insurance etc. I'm also building out my own website as this is what I did and marketing prior to being laid off due to covid. I'm excited about working for myself and what the future will bring. I also have the Motor Carrier authority (currently in limbo) awaiting truck financing but am aiming to become an Asset Based Broker. SKIES THE LIMIT!!

That’s the problem today. We have too many chiefs and not enough Indians. I consider brokers chiefs. Everyone wants to stay home and make easy money. Well everyone can’t stay home!
