We are looking to get a tandem roll off truck to better suit our needs than our current single axel hook lift that has an Allison 3000 RDS. The truck we are possibly going to purchase is a 2022 Freightliner 112 with a D12 Engine and an Eaton 10 Speed Auto (100k miles) I would like some insight on what people with more experience in the field think of this transmission. Will it fair well as a roll off backing up to dumpsters and going off road at dumps? Any information you have to offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My son, who has alot of experience driving dump trailer, roll off and flatbed, has the opinion that, as far as autos in vocational work, the Allison is the way to go. One company he worked for was buying a new Volvo roll off truck that was equipped with an I-Shift. He has driven many miles with the I-Shift, doing OTR flatbed, as well as an Allison doing dump work. The new Volvo was much harder to deal with in the tight situations than a truck with an Allison. Ask anyone who has driven an Automated Manual Transmission their opinion on backing into tight, non level spots with the AMT! The reason the Allison is better? No clutch engagement to deal with. They use a torque converter like a car. Allisons have been around forever so they probably have them figured out.
Just my (and my son's) humble opinion...........
