I'm attending a small truck driver school and we're currently studying for the DMV pretrip test. Most of us have prior mechanical training so we're zipping through it fairly quickly, but one of my classmates has zero trucking or automotive knowledge and is completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of new terms to learn. We were given a list of items to run through for the DMV test, but I can tell that this fellow is just reciting the script and pointing in the vague direction of parts with no real idea where they are or what they do.
I've crawled under the truck & trailer with him and pointed out everything, but with everything else we're learning it just seems that he is getting information overload and mentally shutting down. So I'm hoping to find basic/generic suspension & brake diagrams to print out and give to him so he can study at night & on the weekends when he has wound down and is more able to focus.
I realize this should probably be the school's responsibility, but it isn't really like he is 'behind' -- just that the rest of the class is much further ahead. Getting him 'caught up' means I spend less time baking in the sun and more time driving![]()

It sucks when one person (or a few) holds the class back.
It is great that you are helping him. Is he trying as hard as you? Does he have internet to find and print the diagrams?

He's definitely trying and I've told him about this forum, but I don't think he's the online type...

(sorry for the back-to-back post, but the forum apparently requires a post-count of 2 before embedding images?)
Anyway, I've continued to search and in case anyone else is out there wondering the same... this is the best I've come up with (all from OK commercial vehicle guidebook):
But I'm still open to anything better...Nycmex77 Thanks this. -
That looks like the MS commercial vehicle guidebook.

That's good you are helping him. My instructor asked me to help a woman with backing when I went through school. They know you have more time to spend with the person at your motel room and stuff.
But I doubt he'll make it without a mechanical aptitude. That's part of the job. Some people just can't put a nut on a bolt. But they are good at something else. Don't be discouraged, the majority of drivers don't last a year after they find out what things are really like.
