Do they have brokers that specialize in tankers? and how much do they pay.

    Thanks

First , thank you for your service .
Quality has some terminals that are desperate for people .ive seen up to a couple thousand for signing on. The Haz-mat and TWIC are required. A passport is a plus. The bottom feeders are always looking so prime and Schneider might be good places to start.

Thanks pawpaw1 I appreciate the recognition and the advice...can you tell me how the tanker industry pays? I mean I know some pay percent but percentage does not matter if you're hauling cheap right whether it be van refer flat or tank.

Again with pay it depends on which terminals you run for . As a company driver I am guaranteed $.40 a mile and there have been runs where my boss had to give me a pay boost because of a low rate . They have to give me a $100 boost on one 2,000 mile run where my percentage would be $700 .
Decide which terminal you would run from and get info for drivers working for that terminal .
While Quality isn't the best I think they guarantee 2400 miles a week paying 62% of revenue .
They say their company driver turnover is has been 49% since 2006 . I think that's pretty high for a tank carrier and I think it is getting higher .

I don't consider a passport a plus . When passports became mandatory for U.S, border crossings most drivers at my terminal refuse to get them because our loads into Canada are the lowest paying loads we have . They are also the only loads requiring both live load and unload . Most other loads are preloaded with some drop and hook .
We aren't paid for load/unload unless it goes over 2 hours .

    Welcome . And , again , ThankYou.
Look , rates are all based on miles. I've been with QC for 2 yrs. learned a bit. Yea , I get paid percentage . But it's percentage based on a mileage rate. Here's the way I figure it. I ask what the load pays , and the miles . I get the gross , times my percentage , divided by miles.
Then I look at where the load goes. Weather , my knowledge of reload , my assessment of how hot the area is , and then decide whether to take it or not.
I'll take a lower rate , to get into an area where freight is hotter , and or rates are better. Or the weather is better.
Truth is , most loads pay between buck and a half and two bucks. Plus fuel surcharge . That's my cut.
I'll do a dedicated load , where you take the same trailer out and back , that , total mileage considered , is only a buck six or so , cause they need it covered , a good load is a couple days away , from the same terminal , and I've got a lock on that good load.
And frankly , it's a scratch my back , I'll scratch yours world. The dispatcher has a load he needs covered. You're the only one available to do it. Not only will he remember you helped him out , and line you up with good loads , you'll make a little doing it. Better than taking your ball and going home.
I've done well , with QC. I hear some do better , at other places. BUT . I do not have to take a load into a place where a blizzard is gonna be there the same time I am , no matter WHAT they offer.
Im not called pawpaw1 for nothing. I have no intention of wrecking my truck ,for a load of whatever. I also don't intend to sit somewhere , waiting for a government agency to do its job and clear the roads , when I can be somewhere else , delivering a load , washing out , and getting my next load . Which is usually lined up before I'm empty. I'm NOT pushing QC. Been plenty times when I've sat. I think Tampa ( corporate hq ) has it head up its a#s. they are under the government gun. I threatened to leave quite a few times , in the past year , cause I get POed about something. And , truth to tell , I'm ready at any time to do so . Have a backup plan. Generals do . I'm my General. We've always been able to work it out . I give a little , they accomidate me. So far.
Another thing to consider . Vans , flats , dumps , hoppers . You get paid , if you're held up on either end ? I do. Yesterday , I sat for about 10 hours , waiting to unload . I figure I made about $400.00 - $500.00 for that. Not bad. Once , I had to wait 6 months to get it . But I did .
I figure Heavy Haul pays better. But , I'm too old to learn a new business .
If you're looking for absolutely the best money , its the way to go. However , be prepared to sit. Ran into a Heavy Haul woman , in Baytown , Tx. She'd been sitting for three weeks . The load she had lined up was worth it. It'd be worth it to me ,too. But , I'd have rented a car ,and come home to see my wife. And , if the timetable got moved up , why , I'm a couple hours away , by plane.
Your decision. Do what's best for You.

Do not believe first class. I currently work for langer and I would highly advise you say as far away from them as you can get. Read my post regarding their pay setup. Also know that you will not be told what a load pays when you take it, you will only find out once you get your settlement printout and by then it will be to late. Also stay away from Quality Carriers and Bork Transport out of illinois unless you are looking for a way to go broke.
