Do not forget to check these companies out before you sign on the dotted line. Most will require you to stay with them for ~1 yr. If you find one you like look in Motor Carrier Questions - The Inside Scoop and ask a few of their drivers what they think. There will also be new drivers there you can talk with about the company and what they think.

 

Jpatt, If at all possible pay for school yourself, leaves you many more options,and not enslaved to a certain company, having said that you want to stay with a company as long as possible to get some experience but if you absolutley need to leave you will not owe them a darn penny.Research as much as possible this site is filled with a world of info. Going to a school will get you a cdl the real learning comes with your new job and trainer, and after that when you go solo. What works for one guy may not work for you. Me I tried to go with a company that got me over 30 cents a mile and was not a huge mega carrier, they had decent enough equipment and decent miles, hence I wanted 30 cents a mile in case of a slow week, ain't no company gonna run you 3000 plus a week fresh from trainer you have to prove yourself first. Being in PA you should have plenty of options, most of us have to start with a starter company, some even stay, use it for what it is worth experience that is what the really good companies want.
