I plan on attending CDL school next month and have been trying to obtain some pre hire letters and of the several apps I have filled out, TransAm is the only one that called to talk about my app. I have a misdemeanor possession charge 3 1/2 years ago and I want to get into trucking. Is there any TransAm drivers out there that can give me some input on the company such as:
Mileage
Pay
Hometime
Equipment
and your experiences with the company. Is this a good company to start out with for newbies? Is there other companies that I can maybe get hired with the misdemeanor on my record? I need all the info I can get so I can get out of the factory work.
Looking for TransAm input.

No takers huh?
TransAm is a company I dont see alot of post on and what post I have read are last year and later and I was just looking for some more recent info on what they are like to work for.
Any TransAm drivers out there? -
Harley, I just resigned on 15Feb08 from TransAm because I learned the truth about them and that the recruiters are full of it. You will NOT get the miles and pay they claim you can earn. Their lease program is an even bigger scam, they will tell you that as a lease driver you will earn $12,000 more than a company yearly and you can earn $44,000 as a lease driver - they also have brand new Kenworth T660 that they will entice new drivers into choosing to leasing instead of driving a company truck that has over 300,000 miles on it .
It will cost $847 a week for the truck plus fuel( about $1,400) lease drivers earn .084 a mile . They say the rule of thumb is that the first 2,000 miles you run will be for your truck and fuel payments ad every thing over that will be in your pocket.
My problem with TransAm was that for the 8 months I worked for them I was averaging about 2400 miles and if you do the math that is $336 a week take home after TransAm gets their money and leaves you what is left . I had many weeks where I just made 2,000 miles and got less that $100 pay for the week.
Bottom avoid TransAm if you do go with TransAm DO NOT go lease be a company driver ( by the way co. drivers earn .23cent a mile + .07cent a mile for personal expenses) -
plus I would prefer flatbed.

TransAm is a good company if you want to sit for 12 hours waiting on a load, then be expected to drive all night (after being up all day) to get the load there by the next morning. flatbed would be the way to go if you want to keep moving.
I "trained" with TransAss when I got out of school. my first "trainer" was an incompetent #### who had me chauffer him around while he got in the sleeper and snoozed. after 3 weeks with him, they were going to give me my own truck. I asked for another trainer and another week or 2 of training. they agreed to this. after 3 days with this next joker, I had to get out of the truck and take a bus home. otherwise, I would have ended up killing him. when I got home, I called their main office and they told me since I got out of the truck during "training," that I no longer worked for them.
first of all, I had already finished training. second of all, they call that "training?" she never asked me why I had to get out of the truck to get away from this guy. they may very well be an OK company, but my experience with them was less than pleasant. proceed with caution. -

if you really wanna run flats, i would suggest trying w/ tmc. i was with them for a lil bit, straight outta school, but tmc isn't the place for me. mainly personal stuff that made me decide to leave.

The idea of being cooped up with a stranger for several weeks, 24/7 in a box, will be hard for me, even if he is a great guy. If he isn't......... -
