About a year ago I started looking into getting into driving but decided to stick it out with my current job because I was not willing to be away from home for long periods of time. The company I currently work for is looking very unstable and there aren't many opprotunities available for people with my professional background. I am in the Indianapolis area and am considering Roadmaster, Driver Solutions and Sage Ivy tech for training. If possible I would like to find a way to not have get company sponsorship to pay for training, but if I have to PAM is looking interesting. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Looking into it again.

well if your where laid off you could have the federal goverment pay for it as a retraining program but dont think they will do anything if you are working im headed to indy next week to c1. pam right know is only starting team drivers

Thanks for the response TallCountry. How has your experience with C1 been so far? Do they do the high pressure get signed up now thing?
-
nope havent had any real pressure from them i picked when i wanted to start and just told them this is when i am avalible to start the people i have been dealing with have been as good as you can expect for recruiters. But do your research first befor you falk to them they tend to be different if you all ready have a idea of what you want from them.

How long do companies keep new drivers out for? Is it a week at a time, weeks at a time or even a month or more? Are some starting out companies better than others? Thanks in advance!

hometime? what is this home you speak of mine went bye bye because I am not spending 1k a month for a place I get to see for 2-3 days a month. Most companies you get 1 day hometime for every 7 days out. And you have to be out at least 17 days before you can go home.

when you talk to the company you nrrd to ask what there policy is for home time. The one thing i have learned on here from reading the threads on here is that you need to ask and request your home time with plunty of advanced notice for your DM so that he can work with the loads to do his best to get you in home during that window you are looking to be home.

OK, this is what I've come up with so far. Checked out Roadmaster. Seems like a good place to get a CDL quick. The recruiter was good. He gave me the info., answered my questions and I never felt pressured. I also did an online application at what I thought was C1 but turned into Driver Solutions. The recruiter was obviously trying to get me to sign with USA or PAM. I am really not interested in signing a contract with a company to get my CDL. The one I haven't heard back from yet (and the one I am most interested in) is SAGE at Ivy tech. From what I've seen so far they look like they offer the highest quality training but I need to check them out more to be sure. Friday I have an appointment to talk with a lady about WIA and other possible financial assistance. Getting the best training is top priority because I am also looking to get started with a top company. I consider myself to be a high quality employee and I want to work for a high quality company. So far the companies I am most interested in are Schneider and Roehl. I have to thank all the great people on this forum for all the great information I've gotten so far. If anybody has any suggestions or just wants to throw their 2 cents in I would love to hear it.

Make sure your background check, and Motor Vehicle Report, are decent enough !!!
