i am trying to decide which place to go, both have pros and cons, and i know about 99% of what i hear is bs, pay and hometime etc,
im looking for anyone who has an opinion about either company as i just cant make up my mind.
CRST is team Stevens is solo
lower pay / higher pay
8mo / 1yr contracts
Iowa / Texas
cost of school not deducted from pay / loan payments deducted from pay
will post more later, just wanted to get this out there for some opinions and info. as if im not on info overload already.
frankly neither company is any good. but i need atleast 6mo OTR EXP to get any local or reginal work around orlando that i have seen.

Dude.. I'm in the sme boat you are, however I am leaning more towards CRST. I've been doing a lot of research on both, now just waiting to call CRST on Monday. I would, however, recommend you read the following thread. Don't skim through it, actually read it. It'll tell you more about Stevens that you probably haven't seen anywhere else.
Good Luck!
Stevens Transport Aviary -
well wife and i are battling over them, im starting to lean to stevens now,
or none at all and just walkaway from this life to be a single walmart employee for 250 a week for the rest of my life, lol.
ive been through so much BS the last 6 months its unreal
ran my own biz for 6 years, work fell slow and got a nice cozy job at a resort, sold my truck, trailer, mower, and more, thinking id be there for years to come. then 9 months later i helped out a coworker, he screwed me over, then got me fired.
with no recourse available i sold even more of my things. moved 45min south near my mom and with only one car and couldnt find steady work, after 3-4 months there flat broke, i sold some more and we moved in with the wifes dad yet another 45min south.
now here in melbourne FL for 4 weeks now, got a job PT at walmart, awaiting my first full check next friday. hoping to get enough by feb 28th to go to school or move because wifes mother is moving back in with her dad for retirement, so we cant stay here.
only have about 450 a month now in bills including wifes cigs, diabetic dog, and her car ins. my cell, 50 irs pmt and my dogs food.
so pretty much i have a month to get my $$$$ together and be out.
ive sent everything i need to CRST already, and going to call Stevens tomorrow. but i do like the solo idea much better. but thinking the finance situation is way more complicated than CRST.
i read the first 10 or so pages of that thread you linked. so far it seems to be going ok for the guy. but the making les then 13k deal, which isnt an issue with me. i think, ill have to look at 2008 taxes again to be sure though. may have claimed low due to economy but i dont remember the number.
anywho, whats your reason for leaning to CRST? anything specific? -
I dont think Stevens is hiring out of Florida. I may be wrong though as it changes.

Custom, Steve, you guys really wanna use the search function at the top of the page. Enter the company name, and read away.
Or look up the company's DAC on this site (found in the Good and Bad companies sub-forums). Neither of these two companies is Werner bad, but neither of them is much better either, according to the threads you'll find.
However, I do recommend that you take what you'll find with a grain of salt. Some driver go into this with a bad attitude, and it always ends badly for them. Others start positively and it usually goes OK.
Bear in mind that I have no personal experience with any of these companies. -
i agree it is what you make of it, as is any job that is tough.
i have searched and read, more then i can stand, lol.
i just called stevens and got the response i did over a month ago which was "not hiring out of FL" till june they say...
however i had forgotten i was told that already so now my wife did nothing but get my hopes up for a better company. her "friend" went through stevens thats why she is pushing it so much.
so now it looks like CRST really is the only option right now for me unless i wait till june, the problem is that my current low paying job is in melbourne FL and dont pay enough to support both my wife and I plus 3 dogs once we have to move out of her dads place in 1 month, and i cannot transfer to another walmart for 6 months, so since her moms house that we were planning to move into is in apopka (Orlando) theres no way i can commute,
so its either stay here by myself with 1 dog to keep the wallyworld job, or go to CRST and risk being paid crap, with less than stellar training, and be stuck for 8months with a codriver with very little home time, yes even less then Stevens.
ahh, decisions decisions.
been married 6 yrs and the last 3 have been rough, god it would be nice to have a wife to help me through this since im the only provider and not just piss me off daily and ruin the few good days... im ready for some alone time.
ok sorry for the rant, -
why not call swift ???????
-
heard way worse about swift, i dont remeber now but they were removed from my list very early on in this search lol.
