If he said where he lives than he’d get more help. If he lives where most of the work will be farm to town or elevator transfers then he will have long days with lower pay. But if he lives someplace where he can get hooked up with a commodity broker then with the right trailer he could make decent money. Hopper stuff is different all over the country and when someone comes and says they want to buy a hopper and they give little info other than that then they will get 100 different answers.
Take my day today: Left the house and delivered a commodity load to a dairy that pays decent. Loaded a short load of beans that wasn’t great but fills a gap. Loaded a short load of fertilizer that paid great. Loaded a short load of beans that filled a gap. And then loaded a commodity load to deliver Monday morning. And now I’m home. All in all a decent day. But if I was stuck hauling only grain loads I wouldn’t be home yet and I’d make about $300 less for the day.

Ok so that was harsh...I will apologize.
But my point is still valid. We need to encourage folks to take a chance. What works for one person might not work for another......everyone’s circumstances are different.
To the OP I would say you can make it work, it won’t be easy but nothing worth having is easy for anybody. If you have the business sense and the drive it will be ok. If you no business and no drive life will be difficult for you no mattyer what Route you take.Bfr38, D.Tibbitt and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
Tell your friend it’s none of his business and if your friend knew the whole story he wouldn’t believe it

Where are you located? I would not ever run hopper bottom but that’s just my view. Location and home time are big factors though.
I own a trucking company, my Dad owns a grain farm and an elevator. I don’t haul for my Dad because it doesn’t pay enough. He’s not cheap, it’s just the margins are too thin for him to pay more then he does.
See what I’m saying? I have direct access and still pass it up. Don’t truck for fun, truck to make money and get ahead in life.Eldiablo, Bfr38 and Muddydog79 Thank this.
