If there’s a local company that has good connections maybe he can get hooked up with them. I’ve said on here before when it comes to work you don’t have to know the guy but you have to know the guy that knows the guy. What I’m doing now I have zero connections other than the guy I load for and I’m dedicated to him. I might sleep in my truck one or two nights a week and I have weekend off. I would be a fool to try and go around back to try and get my foot in the door. That’s why way back I asked the OP if there was anyone he could get hooked up with hauling feed commodities or something. Grain pays jack squat and even us local guys haul more commodities than anything.

Trucking is a tough deal. Doesn’t matter who you are. Some do better then others but it’s tough no matter what.

If I was going to buy my own semi again. I would probably run dry van with Mercer, or maybe Landstar. It all depends. I would definitely do my research though. These guys have been in it much longer than me. Dry van doesn’t pay near what steel and most reefer, but I prefer dry van. Everyone has there preference. I’m not going to discourage you, but 30,000 is like 30 dollars when it comes to your own authority, insurance, IFTA, heavy Highway taxes, break downs, fuel and then you’re 1099 so Uncle Sam wants to bend you over at the end of the year and take some money. If you ever do decide to do this many people disagree with me, but come around the end of November, or December around this time. I used to put a lot of money into my truck. I would put tires on it, if needed. Change the oil, grease it, brakes, airlines, etc... you name it. At the end of the year it’s all a write off. So instead of giving a lot to Uncle Sam I’m putting it into my truck. Either way I wish you the best of luck! A old timer friend of mine who trucked atleast 60 years. He said to make a million trucking start out with 2 million. It’s rough out here, but nothing is impossible! Best of luck to you!!
trucker870sb Thanks this.
