Okay, so usually I'm bottled up in the NE where I know my way around. When I do go out it's usually on familiar routes and I know where I'm off too.
But this week I'm off to Minnesota, and for once have the opportunity to bypass that whole mess in NE IL. (Don't worry, I'll probably end up with a backhaul out of there)
So I was thinking of running A southern route: 70 across OH into Indy, then 74 up to Davenport then maybe if I'm ahead of schedule, I'll cut some back roads to Albert Lea.
But I'm not seeing any truckstops along the way between Indy and Davenport, save a 160 spot T/A in Bloomington IL.
So is this a better route? Are there decent truckstops along this way? Any places to avoid? Or places that crowd up early?
Thanks in advance.
Looking to bypass Chicago by taking 74 out of Indy

Where are you coming FROM? Plenty of routes around, but it all depends upon where you're coming from as well as where you're trying to go.
-
...that and whether you're skeerd of them 2-lanes and try to stick to the big roads, or if you're willing to cut through the sticks...
...and how many out-of-route miles are acceptable...
...and whether time is of the essence or if you've got time to burn... -
The Avenue of the Saints goes right to Albert Lea, you pick that up on I80 just north of Iowa City, it follows 380 through Cedar Rapids and takes US20 to Cedar Falls, where there are a few stoplights, then to I 35 southwest of Mason City,IA and at the point, you are less than hour from Albert Lea.
Truck stops at Davenport on the Northwest side, a Loves and a decent Flying J, smaller ones on the way to Iowa City, the world's largest at Walcott with 2 Pilots, a diesel only Pilot near Atalissa, a big Caseys at Ely off I 380 just south of Cedar Rapids, a Sinclair Independent (AMBEST)at Center Point less than 20 mies north of Cedar Rapids, some smaller ones in that area, a Jewith hot food only, and a Road Ranger Pilot across from the Freightliner dealer (Harrisons) with a sit down restaurant inside, these are at exit 67 off I 380, Waterloo area, Evansdale and Elk Run Heights.
Clear Lake has a Pilot, there is the Casino rest area truckstop up by Northwood just south of MN. The Trails is inside what is now the Petro, and a Loves across from that, exit 11 liirc I 35 in MN which is Albert Lea.Lucy in the Sky, MJ1657 and bzinger Thank this. -

Coming out of Philly. Actually I'm down for the night at Carlisle, I didn't have the hours for Wheeling WV, so I decided to lay up short.
Sometime in the dark I'm gonna hop on the 'pike and burn all night. So I can use up my 11 before the afternoon rush.
Indy, easy. Davenport is probably out of range. So I'm looking for a spot in mid IL. -
Mid IL would be Bloomington there is Pilot there as well as the TAand some majors along 74 to the east.
13 miles farther to run up to 80 on 39 and miss the coop at Carlock there's a J at LaSalle. -
there's also a loves in oglesby on 39, don't know the mile marker but it's five miles or so south of I 80

Oakwood, IL. Theres a Peelot and a mom and pop. Mom and pop has a huge parkinglot. Theres a sporstsbar next to the mom and pop that has decent food and adult beverages for those of you that can handle being an adult.
There's a fuel stop in Morton,IL. They have a real restaurant across the street. ex 102. 74 is the common OSOW route, and I like food and beer served by cute waitresses.MJ1657, ncmickey, Dale thompson and 1 other person Thank this. -
