Well, It's almost January! I'm turning in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. I have my my DOT physical completed, passed all CDL-A tests including fingerprint, hazmat, etc. Have the learners' permit. Will be heading to Cartersville, GA January 17th to train at Millis Transfer Institute. Thanks everyone for you responses and encouragement. If anyone has any more advice, please don't be shy. I'm all ears!

Thanks for the update. Keep us posted on how you're doing, how you like the school, and anything else you can think of.
Best of luck. -
It's great to see someone progress like this. Congratulations!
I can't add much that hasn't already been said, except to say I'm a byproduct of the corporate office space myself. Today, I own my own truck and I wouldn't be where I'm at without the help of many of the professionals on this site. I should have made this move years ago. -
Good luck. I was 52 when I started with Millis in 2012. I have nothing but positive things to say about them. They never lied to me or cheated me out of any money.
I drove for them for a year and a half out of Cartersville. It turns out I didn't like being away from home. Even being on regional and getting home every weekend that really wasn't enough.
I wound up finding a job driving a 16 foot flatbed shuttering supplies and product between 2 plants 1 mile apart. LOL. Turned out to be the best job I ever had. They've since built a big new plant combining the 2 so no need for a driver anymore.
Now I'm their security guy monitoring about a hundred screens. Again, best job I ever had.
Working for Millis ultimately led me to my job now. I went into trucking with the thought of giving it a year to see if I liked it. I loved driving a big truck, but not being home at night was to much.
One last thing, Millis does have a certain trainer that's a real POS. If he's still there and you get him it won't take long to know you got him. Don't let him discourage you and your plans, ask for another trainer.
Best of luck Sir. -
Good luck with your new adventure. I was slated for the Jan 11th class with Millis in Richfield, WI, but decided to take another opportunity that came up recently that I felt was the best opportunity for myself. I will start my journey in two weeks and I am 51 years-old.

Brand new to the industry. I will be training and getting my CDL in a manual transmission if all goes well.
