Man my wife has been riding with me for several years..you learn to work your times out so you don't stay in those kind of places..stay in truck stops, areas outside those cities. Over time you learn to work your clock that way. Only a handful of times have we stayed in a few cities like that over night and it wasn't near as bad as we thought it was going to be. Actually my wife tends to have more balls than I do. We stayed in a bad area in downtown LA once at a receiver..I was ready to high tail it outta there but she was all for it. In the middle of the night a car pulled in and parked next to us..I thought ok here we go. Next thing you know a lady got out of the car with a bag of cat food and was feeding the stray cats..I wish you could have hung in there a little longer but oh well. I certainly understand..good luck!!

Yep, I'm part of the 95%. I am thankful for the opportunity I had though. At least I won't be 80 some day and look back and say, "Man, I wished I had tried that trucking thing". Haha. I really do enjoy driving the truck. Maybe someday, they will start issuing trucks with bathrooms and showers so it doesn't matter where you shut down for the evening; you have everything you need. Some of us have issues which require having facilities available to us. Without getting into too much detail, I just wouldn't have been able to make this work for my wife and I. It was a retirement gig for us anyway. I plan to keep pursuing something in this industry. Again, please don't think you wasted your time on us; you are still a very encouraging part of this forum!

That's awesome! I did see a few couples in the 6 weeks I was out there. Again, I don't want to discourage anyone from this career. It's definitely got a LOT of great perks and opportunities. Everyone's circumstances are different.

Lol......truck drivers can't even use a trash can. A dump station for the holding tank would be impossible.:eek:

You could look into Averitt. They have their own service centers/terminals that you could take your 10 at.

Yeah, I noticed at alot of the truckstops; all the trash at the back of the parking spots. Hard to understand that as well. Several of the shippers / receivers wouldn't allow the use of their bathrooms and didn't even have a port-a-jon. I guess they treat us all like animals because some choose to live like animals. I've talked to some old timers who said it didn't used to be that way at all. Sad that people have lost (or never was taught) respect for themselves and others...

Interesting you say that. I had another guy tell me the same thing. He worked for Averitt in Knoxville. He also ran a forklift for them before trucking. Said they are a GREAT company to work for.
