I use the high side of low to start most of the time, low side of low when on a good incline, but I need to do that to get 120,000+ rolling without frying the clutch. Now, I know having learned that, that you might start to do a little double talking on how this isn't going to be a good setup for me, and you would be right. But for the sake of the conversation up to this point, lets say that I added a two speed auxiliary to my transmission for the sole purpose of getting that weight moving without compromising the longevity of the clutch. Your choice of gears vs mine will not pull this weight (or 80,000) for that matter as good as the gears that I would choose.

Assuming you could get it rolling, there would be no difference.

But, if your using low regularly now your low gear would be to high with a 2.64. Which i s why i said 5 pages ago, this isn't a great set up for over 80k. But, this is not the fault of 2.64, its the fault of no one making a 18 with a direct top gear.

Show me the math! That is laughable at best that you would actually think that!

I realize you might have a hard time visualizing all of this, but do you have any comparison experience and data to confirm your contention of what you don't buy in this discussion? I hear a lot of conjecture about how things play out, but i see no side by side comparison or dyno data to back it up. There are several of us that are using 2.64 diff ratios and not experiencing what is being postulated.

    Richter Thanks this.

Sure, I cannot count the number of times I have started into a grade and have one of these trucks that run these airplane gears come up beside me and not be able to get around, or pass me then they dog out and I go back around them. I almost always ask them on the radio what scared them to back out of it, reply is almost always the same.

And you can imagine that my reply is almost always
And then I usually get one of the following as a reply.
    or
That's all of the comparable data I have to confirm my experiences, real world trucking, not a controlled environment with someone altering the results on a set of rollers.

Try taking his specs to a dealer for a new truck (not a glider). You won't be able to do it. I'll bet cash.

Oscar I'm going to blow your mind here. Trust me on this. I wouldn't blow smoke up your ###. Take two trucks going the same road speed, same wind resistance, same driveline losses.

Now ignore engine rpm, torque, gear selection, rear gear ratio, tire height.

Whichever truck is making the most horsepower will pull the hardest.

You can try if you want! I doubt they'll allow you. Once you spec certain things, the computer will block out other options. For example once you spec 2.64 ratio you won't be able to choose non-greasable bearings.

    edit I meant u-joints. I'm having a TERRIBLE day.
