Afraid to say, I totally and utterly disagree with you regards a 2.64 not requiring more power to get turning than a 3.90. More torque is required, as can be proven by a lot of manual tests. Hell even rolling a vehicle on flat ground uses the same principal. Larger tires are easier to get turning by hand than smaller ones, more leverage.
Oh well, no point in rebutting what I say, been there and done that, seen the results. Can it be seen on everyone's precious dyno? No, due to HOW the dyno calculates power.

What gear specifically in what transmission specifically are we talking about?
I didn't say 2.64 were easier then 3.90s. I said 2.64 with a direct drive 10 speed are comparable to 3.55 with an OD 10 speed. And it's absolutely true.
And talking about leverage but not taking into consideration ratios of the transmission is laughable. -
I would use first gear myself, why you ask? Because I don't want to exert any more force than I have to, to climb the hill. If I use 1st gear (3.55 ratio) I can get to the top without getting hot and being winded. If I use 10th gear (2.64 ratio) I will have to exert a lot more force to climb the same hill, by the time that I get to the top I will be hot and winded.
