I see a common theme here, and that is Richter's constant worry about start ability. Which with those gears is a valid point, now if we can get him to realize that 2.64's couldn't get out of their own way on a hill.....

You obviously just want to stir the pot and not read my posts in their entirety. I stated in that last post it is not a setup for every need, and specifically mentioned that if I was pulling hoppers out of soft cornfields fully loaded, it would not be the best choice. I also stated there is no perfect power train solution for every application. That is why there are so many choices available. The only thing I stated was for general freight, it is a good option.

That being said, I have over 260,000 miles on my glider with a DD60 and 18 speed in front of 2.64. I regularly have to pull bulk commodity loads of oats and honey, as well as steel coils over a LOT of two lane hilly areas. The grades are not as long as something in the rockies, but the grades are as great or greater in angle. Anyone who has hauled from Dubuque IA to Stockton, IL on highway 20 can attest. Especially interesting in the winter months at times. I have to get into several locations that are family grain elevators and honey producer collection points with this truck. I don't have to go in and out of crop fields. I have not had a single problem with this setup. I will still concede, it is not the perfect solution for all situations.

Real world of trucking? You do not have any idea of where I have operated in the past and under what conditions. Quick.... what is both the proper and common names for the first place to pull over and take a squirt after running thru Donnelly Flats in Alaska? Quit being so "high school" and trying to show your machismo. You are just showing your extreme case of myopia.

Way to go cowpie. Maybe they will belive you since you got 30 years under your belt. They all seem to think i don't know #### because i only have 3.

Would you agree a 2.64 with a 10 speed direct and a 3.55 with a 10 speed OD will do the same flying up hills? (everything else the same?)

People here seem to be ignoring the ratios in the transmission which are just as important as the ratio out back. One dimensional thinking.

If we can get you to realize that the gears in a direct drive transmission make up for that....

You're thinking the same transmission with 2.64 gears vs. 3.xx gears. We're not.

As i said, one gear less makes up for a shorter rear. Since you cant go bellow your first (or low gear) to compensate and cant go over the top gear, those are the 2 im most concerned with.

well i was lol, but, the 15 the op has would actualy be a better fit then a 13 since the 13 has a shorter OD. best is a direct trans but unfortunately i have yet to find a 13 with a final ratio of direct. The direct 10 is a pretty good option though and compared to a OD 10 with 3.55, the 2.64 with direct 10 are the same.

The same in overall ratio, yes. But don't forget where the torque is multiplied. An OD 10 with 3.55's has less torque through the drive shaft and U-joints. This may not be an important factor in many applications, but if you're heavy and do any off road, how much abuse the driveshaft has to endure can be a big factor.

It the same amount of torque as when your in 9th gear on an OD trans or 11th on a double over 13. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy haul, but the drive shaft can be speced to handle the torque.
