I had less than a month tanker experience when I came down to the oilfield. Worked 3 weeks for Excalibur out of Jal before I had enough of their junk equipment. Now I work for a small outfit out of Carlsbad. Running a 18 w900 and pulling a brand new 2019 dragon.

It can can be done without tanker experience.

As mentioned before if you want to get into crude, the simplest way is to hire on with a water company do your 6 months or so and start looking.

A guy can earn a decent wage hauling water, it's easy (especially on nights not as much service work) most of they other drivers are cool. Home every night in most cases.

I would haul water over crude if all I did was water, but I don't like service work all that much, I prefer to know what I'm doing everyday. Which is why I like crude.

Indeca crude express might hire you with 6 months but they aren’t very good as far as payroll best thing to do is start off hauling water and get your experience I did 4 years of water did pretty much everything you could do in the water side and made decent money

I applied to Marathon and got declined with 2 years CDL and 6 months crude experience.
They have good feedback from a few drivers I knew that hauled for them.

That Marathon ad said it's a salaried position. Anybody know what that salary amount is?

I’m looking into getting into hauling oil as well, I don’t have any experience (with oil/water) and see ads saying X amount of experience required. Why? Other than opening and closing the correct valves and not rolling over cause your hauling a liquid what makes it a challenge?

You obviously never dealt with surge and the slosh. The potential to roll over is pretty high with tanker. They just dont want people rolling over their equipment.

Right now is a tough time for crude haulers if you are trying to get on in South or East TX. I know one outfit that just hires O/O. A month ago they were looking hard for drivers then in a matter of a couple of weeks they had over 200 applications. Same for company drivers. Got a buddy over at a company that I would say is mid size and they have a waiting list of almost 20 people trying to get in the door.

Thanks for the reply’s !!! I have felt the surge and slosh, 8000 gallon tank with no baffles but wasn’t in an oilfield environment...and wasn’t every single day only during spring and summer while spraying on the farm. I thought there’s maybe more to it than meets the eye. I’ve had my license for 10 years and have 11 years oilfield and got out now might get back in as an o/o and seeking all the information I can chew on.

P.s. I’m in Canada it’s tough going here too our oil isn’t worth nearly what yours is.
