I'm assuming that you need years of experience to get to that level or is it something I can get into right away? And I'm also assuming that you wont be going very far with those, no? I'm state only?

you start with flat bed and work your way up I’m heavily thinking of going into it myself, weighing my options.

Some people here will help you with advice if you ask, people like @blairandgretchen are always on and always help when they can.

Some people can pick it up right away some people just need time. And it’s 48 states.
You can pick your own if your lease on or owner operator.

Floridas 2 biggest things are cattle and agriculture. Theres a lot of cows to haul, a lot of fruits and veggies and OJ, and a lot of fertilizer. Loxahatchee and bartow have big potash operations where dump trucks run in droves. Tankers haul orange juice. Probably a fair bit of proteins and feeds for cattle, i dunno.

You can do well instate.. I know a contractor down there and up until covid $1000 a day was no issue for his buddies with trucks. For flatbed you got palm trees, sod, precast concrete, and theres some steel.and hardieboard. Loads from the north to the south pay well and side to side arent bad but anything going northbound from the south is very hard to come by.

Rinaudo is a heavy haul company in jacksonville that seems pretty good. Theres steel mills up there, and good amount of freight out of savannah. But with kids you really need to do more than send a check. You gotta be home to wipe butt and run baths and tie shoes. Stay with a local hauler if at all possible. Be home every day.

In my opinion, driving OTR with a young family is starting the countdown timer for divorce.

It's a lot cheaper to get another job than get another family. I'd look at food or beverage delivery or fuel delivery. Those jobs can be home daily. Find out how much your wife expects you to be home after you get out.
