    Hey guys,

Before I get to my question, I figured it would be beneficial if I gave you a little background information about myself and my job:

I'm 20 years old with a CDL A, I have my own landscaping business and work for a construction company and I love my job. I'm more or less involved with every part of the company I work for, from moving machines to working in the shop.

Our company has two trucks that we use to move our equipment around; a tri-axle granite and a Ford F-750. We have a 30 ton tri-axle trailer we share between the two trucks. 95 percent of the time the trailer is hooked up to the 750. This set up is all well and good for moving our backhoes, skid steerers, ect, however it is impossible for us to move some of our own equipment. This equipment includes two front end loaders, a Gini Z60/80 manlift, and our Daewoo excavator.

I want to get into trucking, specifically equipment transportation. I want to know what start-up and operating costs that I am looking to face, apart from things like truck, trailer, ect. Since the company I work for now needs to hire someone to move these four pieces of equipment, I'm already gaurenteed to get their work, plus any other large equipment and hauling ventures that they would come accross. Do you think this oppurtunity would be beneficial to take advantage of getting into?

    Thanks,
    Brian

This will give you the information needed to obtain hauling authority .

If you don't haul out of NJ , though you won't be subject to FMCSA regulation and will just need to check on getting NJ intrastate authority .
I'm just curious why your company doesn't just buy a tractor and trailer large enough to move this equipment .
If you want to keep your landscaping business it is almost impossible to make a profit doing any type of hauling part time .

    Thank you.

We do not have our own truck for no good reason, to be honest with you. My boss has fetishes for certain pieces of equipment, and if he does not like a certain piece of equipment, for whatever reason, he will not buy it.

As for my landscaping business, I just own the equipment, trucks, trailers, mowers, ect. My brother does the work.
