Currently i have 10 months OTR flatbed experience including OverWeight (86,000),OverLength (88' 6"),Overwidth (11' 1") as well as experience in all of the lower 48 and Canada. Mountain and winter driving as well obviously.
Experience in trailers is
48' steps
48' flats
53' steps
48' mechanical stretch RGN
I have all endorsements but no experience with hazmat or doubles/triples.
No moving violations in life
1 written warning for failure to dim lights
1 written warning for lane control
1 citation for a trailer air hose not out of service
3 clean lvl 1 inspections tractor and trailer
1 clean lvl 1 inspection tractor only
2 clean lvl 2 inspections tractor and trailer
My goal here is to reach 60k gross annually (roughly 1330 per week gross) within 6 months of experience including training. I live in San Jose,CA but don't really care about being there more than once a month or so. I just go back to visit family as i hate that big city life.
My preferred territory is no East or west Coast except for Alaska. Everything else is cool.
I would like if this job had some growth opportunity so i don't need to change companies when i'm ready to advance my career, but that's not mandatory.
I may be able to get some training with my current company before i quit by switching over to their tanker division although whatever new company i join will probably want me to go through their training even if i do so that may be a waste of time. Maybe if i ran my current company's tanker division for a bit before i quit?
All advice is appreciated here guys.
Looking to get started in Hazmat OTR tanker hauling

Ohh God.
I was 8 years in where you going, today decide be a reefer. -
You ash you have all endorsements so if you have hazmat you really need to get a TWIC card. That's what most chemical tanker cos will request you get. Income wise you're about right for income as a co driver. I've heard from some of our guys that they can make as much as $70K year.
I'm not too sure about hauling chemicals in CA I don't go there and you'd be best to hook up with one who goes there frequently, or has a terminal. I'm sure you can investigate all the usual cos, such as QC, Schneider, etc.
I used to live in Los Gatos, great place to live but way too expensive to live so I now live in TX, which is more desirable for chemicals. The mid west and east coast are the more desirable places to haul chemicals. That's where I prefer to run.
Good luck.ramblingman Thanks this. -
Good idea to run tankers with your current company for 2-4 months. This way when you apply with other tanker companies they will see you already have some experience. All tanker companies will send you through their own orientation and training anyway, specific to their needs. Here's some that hire in your area:
Clean Harbors
Airgas Inc.
Trimac Transportation
Quality Carriers
Food Grade(otr & west coast regional)
Indian River Transport
Oakley Transportramblingman and Blue Roads Thank this. -
Chinatown Thanks this. -
you can haul those tomahawk missiles out of Nevada
-
You're probably going to make more $$ in chemicals than food grade. I worked for Indian river for 8 yrs and I can confirm that you will make more hauling hazmat.
But IRT dies a lot of milk hauling out if the Central Valley in CA around Tipton, Tulare etc.NoeDavid, ramblingman and Chinatown Thank this. -
We'll my company made me an offer i can't refuse to stick with skateboards so I'll put this thread on pause for the moment.
