I am looking to go back OTR with a company that treats its driver's fair. I will give you a little background on my trucking driving expierence. I have 10 months OTR with C. R. England and Trans Am which I did not make the money that I was supposed to. After that I got a job driving a lowboy locally and that did not work out since I was paid commission and left the company cause they did not have enough jobs to recieve a weekly check. I know that was stupid, but I needed work. The economy situation has me really thinking about going back over the road. I know that you have to take the good with the bad in any company that you work for especially in trucking. After reading several entries on this forum I am hoping that several of you will send some information my way on wait companies are out there that treat there drivers good. I know that you have to do your part as a driver too. All in all I have a year and a half total, but alot of companies will not hire me since I stop driving otr in July 2007. I have put in for several companies and they either say I am out of there area or not enough expierence. I really want to drive for TMC but I keep getting rejected there, dont know why though. I have a flawless background, no criminal convictions, clean DAC, and clean driving record. Hopefully yall can give me some advice.

Part of the problem will be if you appear to be a job hopper, in these market conditions, it makes it harder. Right now trucking companies can pick and choose like never before. This will end probably in 6 months, and start reversing again, but until then, it will make it tough for you. Good luck.

stay home!!!!!!!! They all are geared to slave wages.....you will be sorry.....think about it a minute pal.....

You spend 24 hours a day in that smelly truck right....ok we established that.......

You drive 500 miles a day if you are lucky....lets say you make 35 cents a mile.....

    500x.35=175.00 a day.....know take

175.00 / 24 hours = 7.29 an hour......know take 20.00 bucks for food away from that .....lets see

    175.00-20.00=155.00 a day

    155.00/24 = 6.45 an hour...thats what you make....

No overtime/ no time and a half
    crappy health care
crappy 401k if they even have one
    slow AZZZZ smelly trucks.
    Missing family and loved ones.
    Dot crap
    road stress etc,etc, etc

ask yourself this? Are you really wanting to sacrifice all this for 6.45 an hour and lie and justify it to yourself while driving down the highway?is it really worth it?

....LETS SEE local play out a minute......at a cheap 11.00 an hour..

    11.00 AN HOUR X 40 HOURS =440.00

10 HOURS OVERTIME WOULD BE 16.50

    SO 16.50 X 10 = 165.00....KNOW TAKE

    440.00+165.00=605.00 gross.....

605.00 for 50 hours(this is local work gross pay)

    875.00- 100.00 for food=750.00 gross pay for 120 hours worked(road job at 5 days a week)

so in real life you only made a grand total of 145.00 extra

for 70 hours extra of work.....there are the real numbers no one will talk about.....

    its slave wages.............

You'd be an absolute lunatic to go to work anywhere in the Truckload industry. You'll be alot better off to take your skills to Burger King. You'll make more and be in a much more stable environment.

the total truth of a "truckers" life is workaholism and slave wages....i am not going to candy coat it....

Its 120 hours a week......no matter which way you look at it..

Drivers do not get payed for the time they have put into this...its a cold hearted fact.....

I think a more accurate picture of hourly rate would be to use the total of line 3 and 4 and to divide into your weekly pay. Yeah, you are out on the road the whole time but sleep time and off duty is just that. But yes, it still sucks.
Thats why I don't do that OTR stuff. I average about 18-20 an hour, but some weeks we may only work a couple of days, if the weather is bad.
But at my age, thats ok too.
