What's the good and the bad about maverick? I'm looking to join the team but would like to know a little insider info first.

I'm wrapping up my first year with maverick and have been pretty happy so far. I don't believe anyone has ever lied to me and more important is that all my pay checks have been to the penny earned. But make no mistake, they are a Trucking company and "sheet happens".

If you like good equipment. A good working environment. Some the best pay in the trucking business. Flatbeding is hard work but it has its good rewards. So far this year I have averaged $.55 per mile you'll never do that pulling a box.

If you're self-starter don't mind a little bit of work then come on over.

It's not a perfect world but it's the best one I've found in the trucking business. Been married for over 30 years and I have more conflicts with the wife then I do with maverick.

I am still in my first year in trucking. I chose flatbedding because it pays better and I wanted remain active and WORK for my money. I chose Maverick because of the reputation they seemed to have and the image they portrayed as a well run company. I chose wisely....

I am very happy driving for Maverick, and I know that you will be too. Looking forward to seeing you write your comment that you are scheduled to head to NLR soon.

All great info. I'm driving a flatbed now so the work don't bother me. Just don't want to get with a company that makes you sit on a load causing my miles per week to be low. I like the idea of being home every weekend (out 3-4 weeks to make money with this company) but I need good miles to stay on top of my bills.

The physical is really not too hard. There is alot of discussion about it (that I can't re-hash here) covered in Jim's thread called "Heading for Little Rock." Just read the entire thread and every question that you could possibly have is covered there. It is an outstanding discussion with lots of us throughout the entire thread.

But in brief: Most people are most concerned with one of these three parts of the physical:

    1. Climbing on top of the simulated "load" which is a large wooden box about 6' tall (I think) that is on top of a trailer. -You are allowed to use two rolled up tarps for steps. It really is not a big deal.
    2. The repetative step test: - A rythmic left up/right up, left down/right down 2 minutes. Again, not a big deal. Some might get winded, but as long as you don't collapse and black out you will pass.
    3. Lifting weighted box: An open-top box with handles, must be lifted repeatedly while adding increasing amounts of weight up to a minimum requirement (can't recall how much is the minimum-maybe 80-100 lbs, and must be lifted up to above shoulder height.)

The recruiters will shoot straight with you regarding the physical tests, trust me. They do not want to bring someone in here and have them just be completely unable to do ANY of the physical.... They will do their job and select those that SHOULD not have much of a problem with this part of orientation. But, the physical is important, because it is a good representation of the types of physical things one must be able to do in order to do the work that we do.

I like Maverick for all of the things that were mentioned, along with them they pretty much leave me alone to make decisions to deliver my load safely and on time.
I choose what route I want to run. I choose when I get up in the morning and when I shut down.
I choose when and where I fuel as long as it is in the network.
When I need help, they are there, but for the most part leave me alone....Not that I am antisocial, just do not like to be micro mannaged...lol
