Hanadarko you posted you have 5 weeks of vacation any chance of doing all 5 at one time. If so you could hire on with a trucking firm and get 5 weeks under your belt which would give you an idea if you really wanted to do this.

They are known for junk equipment, teams, with months out on the road and being lied to from day one. I have one of their contracts around here somewhere. Lead drivers avg was about 40 grand a year... lead driver??? I would hope a rookie could make 40 grand and see the house twice a year...

Most co's you have to sign a form when you get in orientation stating you do not work anywhere else or are not laid off subject to recall.

They are team driver only and I hear they push there lease program ( not interested in it) I don't have my CDL and don't see a reason to spend 4-5k for a school when i can get it cheaper for only an 8 month commitment. This is a job that I have wanted to do for 20 years.

If I was you I would call them and tell them I am interested in going with you. Will you please send me a copy of the contract. Then read that contract and see what it says.

I used to be an Admin on another site. I helped newbies find suitable jobs. I would get contracts and review them. Talk to drivers of said companies. Research said companies. Some of these were taking home 200 bucks a week. Staying out long periods. Break that contract and see how much they jack the price up that you owe them.

Actually as of right now..I am at 321hrs of time off. (8.025weeks).

I am not permitted to take more than 2 weeks a month unless I can show proof of a trip to the Outback or something like INDIA where your gone for virtually a month or so. I also work solo, so backfill is always an issue.

What I did want to do was take vacation pay and attend the 3week refresher/RTDC type training and then come back - give notice and start out with a trainer.

Problem is I need to give 3 weeks notice or I loose whatever vacation pay I have banked/left over and trucking companies barely like 1 week of time off between school and trainer time.

So essentially I need to get rid of my vacation time (somehow) before leaving this lovely job of mine :biggrin_2554:

I think that can be said for most company's that hire drivers with no experience. I only need to bring home 1500.00 a month to cover my expenses ( that includes eating on the road) the wife and I barely see each other now with the current jobs

I was at ceder rapids for a week got kicked back to the house for medication issue had to see the family doctor to get it cleared up. I heading back on sunday I had 2 days of free time there and I did talk to a number of drivers over getting maintenance work PM's done on there trucks. No real complaints about there trucks, all said there was some slow weeks but seemed to be picking up again other than getting loads out Dallas and anywhere from the north west. And finding a good team driver. Most were running 6-8 weeks out before a couple of days of home time.
