There is no pecking order here, no senority.... just the fastest to call in wins the load usually.

Self dispatching is easy once you learn where to go and where not to. I will run anywhere, but I also know the avg rates in and out of all areas and I always make enought going in to cover at least 500 miles Dh from bad areas. I have no clue on the van side of things, but I know it is a very tough market for you all.

For the Reno orientation they gave us all the EOBR unit and told us where to get them installed depending on where our bobtail is.

Thanks, I've heard pro and con on seniority. Also a cursory look at freight seems to lean in favor of a flatbed which is probably worth it just that alone but are you well compensated for the extra work?

What do you mean by "compensated" ???

Flatbed rates are generally higher than van rates. You have to either buy your own trailer or rent one of theirs for $155 a week. I've worked both sides and the flatbed deff pays you better. What you get compensated all depends on the rate you get for the load. there is no special "flatbed" pay... you will learn fast that this is as close to being independant as you can get. nobody holds your hand or gets you loads. If you make it or don;t is 100% up to you and how well you can run your own business.

You Know IF YOU DONT LIKE IT HERE GO AWAY! IF YOU THINK LS S##KS THAT BAD QUIT AND STAY HOME! Either Talk to the office and help change things (yes it can be done) This is prime example of those that can do and those that want to sit on THERE CRANK OLD BUTT AND WHINE AND BLAME EVERYONE BUT THEM SELVES! I grossed over 175 last year and dont have any problem finding loads that pay over 3.00 per mile. I dont sit unless i want to sit! I'm home every two weeks for atleast a weekend and all major holidays including my anniversary(the wardens rules).
As far as self dispatch it comes easy after a while load alerts and keep checking the board. once you hook up with some good agents they start to call you.

Sorry about the Rant but it pretty simple!
As far as Platforms, you cant be a sissy your going to work! yea tarping in the weather bites the bigone! but theres alot of times you wont tarp at all! It keeps you moving and its not a bad workout! Now one of the up sides Besdides the steel mills, most of the time you dont sit, no appointments and platform frieght is usually they need it and need it now! no sitting waitning for doors no BS at warehouses, the stress leavel is pretty much ZERO, get there and get it there safe.
As far as buying a 98 48' flat i wouldnt, to old to much stress has been put to that trailer, unless you know the owner and how hes run it and loaded it i would stay away from it

Most of the great freight never hits the load board. You nees to know who to call to get it. I pull a van and very little of my freight every sees the board. All paying 4 plus per mile.
