Read the other day about a O/O that won the lottery, $2.5 mil, when asked if he was gonna quit driving now that he's a millionaire, his response was no, he said he's gonna keep driving till the money runs out.....

No surprise at all with all of the negative responses...seems everyone hates it when a newbie expresses a desire to chase dreams.
Instead of discouraging how about we offer some support?
The road ahead is not an easy one but it can be done. You won’t want to run under your own authority and will want to lease on with someone. My suggestion would be to fine a local feed mill and reach out to them, they might have an O/O running hopper bottoms that needs to bring on another truck....if you time it right this could be just seasonal work to get your feet wet.
Spend some time trying to understand the difference between leasing on with someone and running under your own authority.
Listen to others but always take with a grain of salt. Around here nobody is going to tell you that this is a good idea....look at all of the other threads that have been started.

Use to do this only run the weekend. But I leased my truck to PTI and ran loads of propane and butane. It worked out pretty good because in the winter they had to keep feeding butane around the clock to a refinery. This allowed the full timers to have the weekends off who ran that account.

Thanks Cummins! I know it can be done but everybody wants to say how awful trucking is and discourage anybody who wants to try to make it. This isn’t rocket science and no more difficult than any other industry. There are no hand outs...you are not entitled, you have to go earn it!
When I see a post like this and the responses o think back to a T-shirt that has the American flag with the words of this flag offends you then leave. In this case the saying is that is trucking is bad for you then log do something else

I think its possible. Something like grain hauling or earlier someone said feed mill. Some of those places need seasonal drivers and their busy season may coincide with your slow time. Also you maybe can get insurance just for the time you would run.
The biggest thing is making a truck payment year round running seasonal. Have to be a cheap setup.

Just a FYI, if you pulled grain in a hopper bottom you could run farm tags, not need authority, and stay local. Also end dump or log wagon would be seasonal and easy to get into. I think staying with local work is the only way to do it. Mostly because local guys run a $35,000 setup and a few grand in the bank. Most of these super truckers will say they're going broke, but its taking them alot of years to go under. Major breakdown often means refinance the truck. Not ideal, but many are doing it and doing better than a day job.
