That's a shame. That vacation policy is pretty ridiculous. As drivers we work long hours to begin with, you'd think they'd be more willing to compensate us for that with offering better vacation policy.

In my current search for an LTL job, I have ruled these guys out for the above reason alone. I get 4 weeks with my current job now and having to start over is bad enough, but having to wait 2 years just to get a week of vacation is too much for me. Its a shame that ABF voted this in for their last contract. They might have a hard time finding good drivers due to their own greediness.

Many other perks, I'd bore you and it would honestly seem like bragging. We fly under the radar for so much stuff, Hardly anyone knows of ABF. Yet somehow the little LTL that keeps chugging along.
The contract really sucks temporarily. Get experience and show loyalty , the contract rewards nicely and ABF survives ( UNTIL, the next contract ). Each terminal is different, I'm happy here, Just stupid on my part for leaving the first time. One day I'll get a vacation, In the current time, Still nice having weekends off and able to have a living wage / Paid benefits without living to work. Crap can be worse.

HR/TM really does a thorough duty of weeding out the F**kheads and questionable characters, It's not perfect, but it's good to know no one will steal your lunch or work gloves and communication ( my barn ) between Drivers and Management ( Union vs non union ) works really well together, The Grievances ( my barn ) is kinda un heard of . Hash crap out like humans and deal with it.

Share the perks Shaggy! I shamelessly plug OD, nothing wrong with loving your job. Who cares if it sounds like bragging. I wake up enjoying life each day because I get to provide for my family, love what I do, get home everyday and off on the weekends - and that's a trucking job! Us LTL drivers have the good life. I cringe when I hear some drivers at my barn complain.

It's not my pay grade recruiting drivers. It's also not wise advertising your ( my ) job. ( It is trucking after all ) Every butt for every seat lol... No thanks... Social media only gets the PG version.

Also. Forgot to mention. I have 3 years experience driving forklift before I started driving truck. I know that most LTLs want you to work the dock some (which I have no problem doing), so would this experience help me in getting hired? Or do they just see dock work as something they can just train someone one. Doesn't matter if they have experience doing it or not.

I doubt it will help that much. I had 3+ years of forklift experience and it was never brought up at either of my LTL interviews. However, I would say that it helps once you get on board somewhere, because it's VERY obvious who has forklift experience and who is starting from scratch. That can be the difference between getting assigned to move pallets via a lift (because you can get the job done quicker/more efficiently) and being stuck moving around freight by hand (i.e. If there's five guys on the dock and only four lifts available).

I went ahead and threw my app in at Estes Tuesday. I figure maybe wait until Monday and give them a call and kindly ask if they had a chance to go over my app yet.

Good idea. I waited a couple weeks and started pestering them. You've got to be persistent. If I hadn't chased my terminal manager down...I have no idea if he would have gotten around to bringing me in for an interview.

those accidents ain't accidents. Estes don't mess with that dac junk. They leave that junk for the crap companies. Estes loves honesty but some things like the one foot pole incident don't need to be mentioned. Good luck. I've been at Estes for years. Make lots of money and feel guilty getting My paycheck. Great company. They try to make everyone happy but it's impossible.
