Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice. I have been a company driver pulling Super B tankers in the pacific north west for 3 years. I'm looking to become an owner operator for this company.
The current rate including FSC is $2.30 per mile. The weight we haul is 140,000 lbs, and we are loaded only one way. The rate is the same loaded and empty. On a round trip the company trucks which are Kenworth w900's, and t800 average 5 mpg.
Fuel here is expensive, todays price is $4.50 per gallon. So my fuel cost will be close to $1.00 per mile.
The trailers and cargo insurance are covered by the company, but we are resposible for our own insurance which costs $1000.00 per month and of course fuel and maintance.
I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 Peterbilt 379, 750,000 miles on it with Super 40's, a 6NZ cat engine 475, bumped up to 550 which was inframed by Finning 63000 miles ago. The transmission and other major parts are original.
What do you guys think, am I setting myself up to make some $, or am I looking at a gongshow.
Thanks in advance for your input
Looking to switch to O/O

With those kinda MPG's and the price of diesel I would guess you wont last long....Just a guess.

So $1.30 per mile after fuel cost is not enough for this type of work?
The FSC goes up if the price of fuel increases. -
$1.30 per mile after the fuel cost? What is your operating cost per mile? That's what you really need to look at. Once you know your operating cost per mile for all expenses, then you know if it will be enough to make money at this.

lol I have no Idea, I'm just guessing with what info you've givin me along with what little info I know about the cost of running a truck.
You said $2.30cpm right?
and you said youd spend $1/mile on fuel right?
That leaves you with a wopping $1.30
From what I've read on here the average O/O's break even point is $1.50-$1.85+/- PER MILE. that is of course with fuel....
So I'll give you the same answer everyone else that actully knows what there talking about will tell you. YOU need to do the math and find out what YOUR operating cost will be, and then you will KNOW if you'll make any money....
But it sounds to me like you'd be makeing what a company driver would here in the States, and I know you guys up there make allot more then us...but like I said I have no idea what your operating cost are
I'm sure some more knowlageable (sp?) drivers will be along to tell you the same thing and mabey offer a little bit of insite lol
Good Luck and I hope you can make it work, a 379 is a sweet ride!
