FFE said they have a refresher course, so I sent in an application. They told me 14 days in class and (ulp) 6 weeks with a trainer at $460 a week. This works in my situation, so can anyone fill me in on what I can expect?

Loads, miles, whiny dispatchers:biggrin_25523:, ect ect ect.

The recruiter that talked to me said they require everybody to go through their driving academy, even with a CDL. She did not make any differentiation between non-CDL holders and those with one, so I can't say, but she did say that's one of the ways they're addressing the pretty bad CSA numbers they've had.

FFE is still a "possible" for me, though I'm not sure how much of a presence they have in my part of Michigan. Seems I relocated to the wrong part...

Tim Goski is the recruiter I am working with. I have to fax a few documents to prove where I was (I have been unemployed since Jan 07 when my dad fell into his illness) so as long as this is all he needs, I should be heading to KDAL on a Southwest 737 Thursday week, to return to the big road. 14 days in the academy, (are the accommodations solo or team?:biggrin_25523:) and then out for six weeks of training (read cheap team runs:biggrin_25522:). After that one year of service and all is well. The cost if the bottom drops out is $3000, far less than any other refresher that I can find. I am so stoked that a company is willing, not only to hire me where i am now, but is also willing to get me a refresher.

I have never pulled a refer so this is a whole new adventure for me. Since I dont need a lot of hometime, I should be able to rack up the mileage and $$$$.

But Tim did not sem to know if the trannys were Super 10's :)biggrin_25521:) or straight 10's :)biggrin_25520:)

SO ANYONE that drives for FFE PLEASE let me know what to expect... NYC, ####cago, West Coast (I prefer West state runs to NE) ect. and how many miles to expect after I get a truck!

Last time I drove a truck was early '80's. Got laid off from the Prudhoe Bay oil patch in '08. Haven't been working since but going to school full time. Time to go make some money. My recruiter (Melvin Russell) wants an accounting of my time since no work record for the past 3 years. Says its needed for their background investigation. No prob, though. I understand...they don't want to put a flake in one of their trucks. All they have asked for is my college transcripts, unemployment insurance payment records, and three letters of reference. Doen't seem like too much to ask for.

I did months of online research and talking to to trucker buddies of mine before I settled on FFE. They seem to be about the most reasonable starter company around and there seems to be a lot less sour grapes on them in the various forums I read. Also, I am in Alaska which is out of the recruitment area for all lower 48 otr companies. But since I agree to pay my own way down they have agreed to make an exception for me. Fortuitous for me as I was origianlly planning on trying to get on with Swift but I hear a lot of horror stories about them.

Maybe our paths will cross at the academy.

It is looking like next Wednesday could be the departure time for me. But someone there is slammed with paperwork right now, so I am in the funnel. So I guess I'll karaoke tonight instead...
