That means he can hold the truck as collateral until he gets paid or the court makes him surrender it. About 2 years ago I did some work on a bike, guy owed me about 900.00, bank calls me and says we're coming for the bike, I said bring a check, short story they came with a check.

You had what I believe is a mechanics lien on the bike. Don't think you can hold on the employer's tools for back wages.

 

Go to it before me. The bike had an (unofficial) mechanics lien on it. The bank knew that and acted accordingly.
Taking the truck home is completely different. Just taking it home is simply a possible company policy violation at worst. Out of route miles. Now when the company comes looking for it and he tries to hide it until he gets paid he might get in trouble, but simply driving it home no problem.

He is driving it home and sending a Qualcomm msg saying where it is when someone decides to come pick it up

 

Sounds like the secured creditors called in their markers. Might want to check with the court to see if the company is going to Chapter 7 liquidation.
