What's going on? I have a few questions about Prime Inc. My name is Rob and it looks like I'm going to do some orientating on the 19th of this month. I'm exited, but also very sad knowing that I'll be leaving my family behind for large chucks of time. That's going to take some adjustment for sure.
I am curious what the average company driver mile per week number is as well as the average Lease Operator mile per week number. Any idea?
What happens when you unload on a Friday afternoon/evening, Saturday, or Sunday? Do you have to wait until Monday to be dispatched with a new load?
I live in Springfield which is one of the main reasons that I have chosen to work for Prime. How many times a month are you routed through Springfield, MO to pick up and drop of trailers and loads? I know about my home time (1 day off for every 7 days on the road), but since the HQ is in Springfield I was thinking I'd be routed through frequently for business unrelated to getting to the house.
I worked for USA Truck 2001-2003 and am looking forward to getting back into a truck. I'm excited about Prime being my future employer. If there is any advice or advisement you can send my way please do. I'm sure I'm going to have a substantial amount of additional questions coming soon.
Looks like Prime is the one!!

Don't you read the forums? There are about 40 pages of negative stuff about them.

I am just asking some specific questions hoping that
i will get some specific answers. -
They run you to NY then to Boston and keep you on the east coast til you're crazy and broke with cheap freight. READ the FORUMS!! What else do you want? Someone to hold your hand through it?

Tanker? Defiantly true
Reefer? No more or less than any other reefer company will
Flatbed? Nope.bobbybaldwin Thanks this. -
Rob from what i have observed in my time OTR. Generally once you send in your empty message within a reasonable amt of time you will be dispatched to the next avail load. Warning: it may be friday nite and your next load is 150 mi away and loads on monday. My advice is proactive with your FM and dont screw him! He will learn to trust you and somewhat look after you. He has stars to meet as well. If you become a problem child...late, oversleep, get lost you might as well resign, no trust = no miles...
Look at the posts in Prime here. Read them all no matter how old. Nice history lesson. Oh and make sure you put a radio in your truck for your own good maybe 1 of 20 primees i see have one. Plain stupid not to have one. A lit of the cold storage places call you to your door on one. Just my two cents worth, i got pissed when my company turned us down to 68mph from 71, no way in heck id drive a 60 or62 mph truck. But there is a reason they are turned down that far. A lot of the older guys remember the prime of a decade ago.bobbybaldwin Thanks this. -
Since I am a ex-company driver from Prime I will answer what I can for you. I say ex driver as I retired and quit driving. This is a OTR position, I would not plan on being through Prime any more than when you come in for home time, You will not be routed through Prime for much of anything unless you ask to be, Routine maintence will be taken care of while you are out on the road or while you are on home time.
As far as Pay goes, you will be driving a lite wt truck unless you go lease or you train, so your pay rate will be .42 cpm, you will run an average of around 2400 miles per week. You will spend time on the east coast and the NE, sorry but fact of life. Once your FM gets to know you you will probably spend less time in the NE. After the 1st year I told my FM I never wanted to see the NE again LOL, and I pretty much did not, he would get me into PA or VA and then get me back west.
As far as weekend loads go, if you have a decent FM, he will try to set you up with a load that runs the weekend. If not then once you are unloaded you will go back into the Queue for another load. I very seldom sat during the weekends unless I chose to, then I had to explain to my FM why I sat LOL.
Send me a PM and I will give you the name of my old FM and he will take care of you as long as you do the same.
Talk to IronPony if you want the scoop on Lease Ops, and there is also a thread the IP (IronPony) has about L/O. Also ChuckTaylor is also a great source of Info about Company driving.
Hope this helps youTICKLES and bobbybaldwin Thank this.
