Hello respected drivers and masters of this business
. New bee and new o/o. Bought 2015 cascadia dd15 with 800k M on it . First day.
-Loosing half of the coolant in 4 hours of drive .
- blowby from crankcase filter . Smells bad.
No visible leaks . Oil looks fine on dipstick . Found something like grease on inside of engine oil cap.
Truck doesn’t loose any power ,
oil pressure looks fine ,
Infecter ? Egr cooler ? Rings? Crankcase filleter ?
What testes you’ll recommend first ?
( that was first day and signed for one year true north coverage . No idea if TN will cover that expense as that’ll be happening very next day of coverage aggeriment ) .
I’d be really thankful for all of your help .
Loosing half coolant in 6 hours drive / blow by from crankcase filter .

Have you done a pressure test on cooling system?
Look into EGR cooler issues -

Grease on oil cap is the mixture of water/antifreeze and engine oil. I would say u've got a cracked head. You won't notice the loss of power if its the exhaust side of the head where the leak is. But it should leak into the cylinder when engine is not running and ending up in engine oil. Drain engine oil but remove drain plug slowly. Just before plug falls out stop turning it and just wiggle it. If there is coolant in the engine it will seep out before oil.

Wow..... I am an also an armchair Quarterback but how about do a run down on diagnosing the problem and not spit ball a cracked head. I been guilty of the same thing on the Volvo forum but I learned my lesson.
Get a proper diagnosis from a competent mechanic who will actually check most of things that are mentioned.Last edited: Nov 5, 2018

First of all I’d like to say THANK YOU ..
In this mean world I feel good that I’m in a profession where we take care and listen each other .
So I took the truck today to the dealer from where I bought it certified . They sent it to their mechanic by their self .
In first shot of pressure check of coolant system , they found it’s leaking form one cylinder line (Is that a piston sleeve) .
I also seen disassembled oil pan and egr cooler pipe .
But head mechanic refused to answer my question that will they change all pistons or just one set .
But he’s keeping the truck for 1-2 weeks .
Thanks again .Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
They will only chaged that 1 liner. Freightliner has been backed up on parts ( liners piston 6 packs.) Last month it was a 3 month wait or longer on a six pack. I haven't heard if that has changed
They might get lucky and find just a single liner and piston to get you back going
Tough luck man. -
I had a 92 C model Cat that had 1 pin holed sleeve changed out under warranty before I bought it.Same with a friend of mine had 96 Detroit series 60 at Only 70 k miles. Both engines went on to 1 mil + w/o further liner issues. Main thing is keep dca/ nitrate levels in anti freeze under close watch. Cheapest preventative maintenance against future problems.Bains Thanks this.
