There's a reason for it. Sometimes it's not obvious till later. You guys make these mega carriers sound like mindless robots.

The pay alone would scary me off.
semi retired semi driver Thanks this. -
Never heard what region you are from , I would definatly just move on , you have used Werner as a starter company , by that I meen you went there found an issue have resolved that issue so therefore its time to move on , wasn't sure what u meant by gov placement but , driving for like Xchange or some other para gov . Outfit would be a really decent gig if you could get it, the other thing you may try , just a thought try getting your med card on your own before calling the next company , good luck

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...
That's what I got from this thread... Maybe someday people will learn?lovesthedrive and semi retired semi driver Thank this. -
I think you got off easy. Going to werner may have been a good wake up call for you. Have you tried Schneider? They tend to be nicer all around to their drivers and how they get you going. Plus unlike weiner, you will be less likely to find some one has pulled your 5th wheel lock at night to find out and post on the net how another werner driver screwed up.
For future reference? When some one goes home after orientation for what ever reason? It says to all companies (even if it was a good reason) that you didnt want the job. If you want to work for a company? STAY THERE! Have them take care of the medical issue! DONT GO HOME! You want a job? Stay there until they tell you they dont want you.
I knew of alot of guys when I was at Western Express that didnt get a job because they couldnt handle the monotony of waiting in a drivers lounge for 5+ days for a trainer. They figured (wrongly) that they could go home and wait.............Lepton1 Thanks this. -
OP probably googled "make big bucks and drive a shiny new truck"
Filled out the application, went to orientation.. And now we're here.
I don't have any sympathy for people who end up at ###### companies.
A bit of research would have avoided this.... -
Oh, and when you go? Make sure you have something like a tablet of notebook that you can browse the web. It will help you kill the time during those waits. The companies usually have wifi. Yet remember, you have signed over to them a "no privacy". So expect your net traffic to be monitored on their wifi. Leave the porn at home, your a professional driver now acting as a representative for the company.

I agree that if you are headed to orientation you should go with the idea that you are reporting to work. If you are accepted as a driver at orientation then stay there until you have a trainer. Push them to get the trainer. Stay in the hotel at their expense and they will definitely want to get you into a trainer's truck to get that expense off their books.
At my orientation over half the trainee's wanted to go home, and I saw the orientation manager roll his eyes. You are there to work as an OTR driver. Come prepared to go OTR!
My last student had medical issues, but stayed in the hotel and pushed every day. Got to the terminal every day, was in their face, and they assigned him to my truck to get him out of their hair and made the phone calls to get HR to get the paperwork done.
Last time I was in the driver development office I realized how overwhelmed they are, basically babysitting folks that went through orientation and went home. Calling them up, wondering why they weren't there and ready for their trainer, etc. etc. Between that and lack of enough trainers they are up to their necks.
If you want to work, get in their face.lovesthedrive Thanks this.
