I have been out of the truck driving industry for a little over 2 year. Can some one please explain to me that even with the 7.5 yrs of experience that I have why these companies keep telling me that because I havent driven in the past 2 years is whats stopping me from getting on the road. I have my own authority but really do not feel like buying a truck right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on companies that realize my experience is way better then the guy/girl straight out of school?![]()

LOL, but lets tell the guy. It's the insurance companies. They seem to dictate to the companies on what they want in a driver. Besides that there's been changes that you might not know. I know that's petty but what I've seen on the net with the better companies is they send you to a refresher course that is short and that shouldn't be a big deal if you want the job.simplyred1962 and RACEFAN Thank this. -
I can relate. After 8+ years, I left trucking after a divorce. Hated managing people, so after 3 1/2 years, I called around to see what my chances were. Swift and Schneider said OK pending a road test. I went with Orange and have been here since 9/07.
At that time, they told me if I had (if I recall correctly) 3 years in the previous five, I could test out and be hired in as an experienced driver, and I managed to do so. But that was still when the market was good for drivers.
Just want to give you a little encouragement and wish you luck! -
I think I may just go buy a truck. Might be easier in the long run. Thanks everyone

You might try expediting companies like Panther and FedEx Custom Critical . All their fleet are O/O but their recruiters can hook you up with fleet owners needing drivers . Husband wife teams right out of driving school have been pit in trucks .

NOW MT FRIEND THE FACT THAT YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM IS NOT ENTIRLY YOU FAULT.
with the econamy the way it is there are thousands of driver out if work and i mean thousands so with all the drivers out of work the trucking companys start adding requirments that are quite stupid and they do it so they can pick ands choose at will, is it right ? no it is not . do they care ? hell no they dont all they carew about is the bottom line.
thats why i dont do the company driver thing and will not ill quit the busines first as far as they are concearned you are dirt under ther feet and the can and will treat you as such. why? simple because they can. who is going to tell them they cant? the goverment? i doubt it as far as the goverment is concearned you simply dont exsist.
if your looking for a job you just have to keep trying. its amazing when all the drivers get back to work and they cant find anyone to drive there junk how quick all the regulations and requierments just fade away.
your not the problem the trucking companys and the econamy is the problem. just hang in there and keep looking , remember you only lose if you quit .
good luck .---southernpride

thats the only way to fly, buy your own truck and make your own rules and a little money to.--southernpride
RACEFAN Thanks this. -
southernpride, you speak the truth, the deck is stacked against the drivers these days as there is an oversupply. The tables will turn when the economy picks up. Drivers will remember who the good guys are (few) and the bad guys are (many).
The bottomfeeder co's will have to change or go under.. -
You think it's bad now.
Just wait until YRC folds, and dumps all their drivers in the street.
Yeh, I know. They're union and won't work for these cheap companies. But wrestling is real too.Last edited: Nov 15, 2009
