Hey guys
I drive a 2007 Freightliner Columbia with a 14L Detroit 60 . Recently about 1600 miles from home I started the truck one morning did my pre trip and I was pulling out of the parking lot to get on the road when I immediately heard a weird noise coming from the engine whenever I got to shifting gears , my acceleration was abysmal, takes me almost half a mile to gain speed it’s embarrassing . The engine noise was like air escaping a torn hose so I checked the turbo charge boots and sure enough they were loosing boost on the hot side and my water was overheating up to 220( normal temp is 175-185 for me ) when going 60+ I then changed clamps and tightened them .
I test drove the truck and it did significantly better on the overheating and engine noise is better but still slightly overheating and still loss of power. engine noise is still present at 1450+ rpm when shifting top gears, I checked the silicone hoses, air filter hoses, the cold side turbo hoses, air charge cooler , no more leaks I can find with a soapy water spray .
I will get the system pressure tested tomorrow at a shop and see if there is any more boost leaks I can’t find but I’m now thinking about the vpod but I don’t want to play a guessing game with a mechanic and spend a fortune replacing parts that are not broke .
I would an appreciate any and all advice .
Loss of power and acceleration
