Driving a int. 4700 single axle dump truck loaded 7 ton. This truck has a 5spd/2spd. Splitter. I stopped at the light, put the truck into neutral, pushed the two spd. Button down (electric two speed). The light turned green I put the truck in gear let out on the clutch and nothing happened. I tried it with the two spd. Button in the up position and still nothing. I ended up being towed. When the tow truck un hooked I dumped the load and all gears were working fine. I drove the truck 150 miles home. Has anyone had this problem?
Lost all gears at stop light!!!

Sounds like 2 speed rear end got stuck between gears somehow, and once the wheels rolled, it probably jumped back into gear.
-
Yea, that is what I was thinking, the two speed was the problem. I guess it is like the two speed in between the hi,low gear, but I really don't know how it works. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It's been so long since I have driven one, but I think you only shift the 2 speed axle on the move from what I remember.
I'm sure someone that knows better can tell us more. -
I know they were a big pile of junk. A company I worked for still had a few as spare trucks. Most had the selector unhooked because the 2 speed didn't work. The ones that did work were so beat up it usually got hung up trying to use the 2 speed rear.

If the two speed is in say second hi, you have to leave the button in hi to shift to third, then while you are still in third gear you can push down the button and up the rims to activate the lower gear. These are simple shifters, but if one does not know how to use the button and rims correctly, it's a mess up every time.
CondoCruiser and TwinStickPeterbilt Thank this.
