Ok here's my story I'll try to keep it short."haha a truck driver telling a short true story" I have been a company driver for 13 years up until a couple of years ago when I went out on a Saturday night and drank to much.I know I shouldn't have drove home but I did and a 1/4 mile from the house i rear ended someone and was charged with a DUI.So before all the dumb @#$ or what a stupid S#$%.I know I promise I have learned a valuable lesson.I have lost a lot in the 2 years but I also have grown as a person,so please keep the comments to a minimum, we all make mistakes.(And no one was hurt thank god).
Ok so my question is I am looking at putting around 40k down on a used truck I want to go independent with no payment. I don't want to start at the bottom again being a company driver.I know the ups and downs of trucking but my problem is everything I read are how the brokers are crooks.I just want to know if there is website that I can check for good broker ratings or something to that nature..Actually any advice will be welcome because I'm not above myself of learning something new everyday.
Thanks,And be safe out there.
Lost my CDL need some advice from a owner operator

Even with your own truck, insurance is going to kick your butt.Good luck
lots of character, browndawg, Joetro and 2 others Thank this. -
As noted in above post check the cost of INSURANCE before you spend $ on a truck if your going on your own and if you planning on leasing on ( POWER UNIT ONLY ) to a carrier they will need to know of your past incident and that will affect getting hired.

Man I hate to say it but with the crash and DUI being only 2 years old and still on your MVR even as an independent with your own authority and insurance I think it will be high as hell for insurance. Course you may have already checked it out if your this far in the deal and know what your looking at. Good luck to you
Ezrider_48501 and Joetro Thank this. -
OP is trolling. If he had 40k would of went O/O before the DUI.
OP didn't learn his lesson as he claims. Looking for a way around his mistake.lots of character Thanks this. -
The 40k will make the down payment on the insurance.

Did my duty of having you post again without being a 1 post wonder. 8 or 13 years experience is laughable, We are both green horns.

OP Brokers are Brokers. Shippers are Shippers and Receivers are Receivers. Drivers are Drivers. If you had a load to transport, you (broker) get $2000 to ship and list it on Load board for $1500. A driver(company) accepts does that make the broker a bad person. NO. We are all out here to make a buck. Now the big difference is mileage on the load. But if the truck agrees to deliver for that price. If the truck is not happy shouldn't accept the load to begin with.
Most load boards will have a link to search broker credit. You can also search Safer.org for broker active or not. Then you can request broker bond information also. Good luckCrissCross Thanks this. -

Quit hating on Shaggy and stay on point: Can you get insurance that you can afford? Every other thing that you could ask about is moot without insurance.Tonythetruckerdude, Joetro and Shaggy Thank this.
