Your young. Take the 40k and start an education in school. You'll be way ahead in the long haul.

yes that is why I'm waiting for the 3 years.. a good B+ will cost me more then the average person, not much around 75$.keep in mind i have no car payments ,no house payment,no wife and no kids.I know it sounds to good to be true but i am out here..1 divorce and a dui is all i need to get motivated is what I'm saying.I just really need some direction on becoming my own boss without fear of being like a grad wanting a truck and facing total disaster. And Thanx Tripple Six for keeping me straight.

I just don't understand why everyone is down on trucking and say hell no don't do it...IDK i have never done anything in life i didn't like and if i did do it and felt that way i left..so there has to be something about it that keeps us around..

Don't think anyone is down on it. Just pointing out the insurance hurdle. If you can get by that than I would say go for it.

yeah trust me that was my biggest concern also,Once I got talking to companies looking for a clean 3yr MVR I started looking around. In the state of NC 3 yrs I'll be clean, and with a 13 yr clean MVR before that I'm not a risk but I still fall into some mumbo jumbo category where it's going to cost me a little more which i understand I guess.Anyone know of any carriers in Wilmington N.C that have good miles and a pretty good package?

Be a company driver for a 2 or 3 years so the DUI and wreck is further behind you.
Probably have to go with a company that gives drivers a second chance such as Paschall Truck Lines. This is a decent dry van company.
There's others to choose from, but Paschall is the best of them.

I also forgot to mention that it has been 2 yrs(postponed court date..4/6/13..conviction 10/20/13, 1 yr with a blow and go in pov, I get my cdl reinstated in November but I know realistically I can't drive for another year. And all due respect china that is what I'm trying to stay away from,I've done the company thing and made great money at it.I'm just in a place now where I want to do my own thing but I have certain restrictions at the moment :) It gives me another year and a half or so to get my ducks in a row that's why I figured on trying to reach out I know I can get some good advice between the lines out here.

Unless $40K is required as a down payment, I'd only offer the usual amount, of (say) 20 % of the cost for the truck. The rest you might want to keep in the bank for money you will need to keep you going during a slow time. But that is just me.

As stated, you may have already shopped insurance, maybe not. I think too that what ever normal industry standard for waiting till this clears your record is best. Go back to being a company driver for about another 1 to 2 years.

Yeah, believe me, I know that sucks, but another way to look at it, is when this current charge of DUI falls off the short term DMV report, you may very well be in a much better position to get insurance cheaper, also, you will now have some time to add to your savings of the $40K.

Just what I might do, I wish you luck, no matter your decision.

Insurance issues will be a serious drag. You can do it, but I would hate to see what the monthly premiums are going to be.
