So I live right off the interstate (I4) in Central Florida. Spend my days driving up and down said road. On average, in a 30 min drive either way I will see 4-8 Heartland trucks. If I'm on I75 it would be an even greater amount. Does this correlate to the ability of ease of home time? I'm considering getting into the industry and understand FL can be difficult to get home. It seams that every other truck is Heartland or Werner. Thanks for your input!

Heartland u need exp and it doesn't mean you'll get home more. What that means is your dispatcher will keep u out and far away from where u live till the home day you requested.Werner has a terminal in Lakeland,FL.

Thanks. I planned to start with a different carrier. Just looking at future options since I see so many of their trucks rolling by.

Heartland may have a terminal there as well. Now if you pick dedicated you would get home more. But OTR, companies prefer the drivers to stay out at least a month.

Lots of good companies out there; some with APU's and some without. Try to go with APU's. If you can't idle on your breaks and layovers, with the APU you can watch TV, play video games, use computer, etc.

Orlando is a good area if you get all the endorsements, TWIC, passport. Here's some of the best paying companies that hire new CDL graduates $52K - $60K+ per year.

    Rinaudo Enterprise
    Melton Truck Lines
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Schneider Bulk
    Superior Carriers
    Airgas
    Tidewater Transit
    Trimac

A driver posted he's making good money and running lots of West Coast turns with Midwest-Coast Transport out of Auburndale.

All these companies hire new CDL grads even if the websites may show differently. If you like these companies, apply as soon as CDL classes start.

I don't know about a few of those, but most I know that a new driver will not make 50K+ with them, and most experienced drivers will not either, since only 1-5% of the drivers at the companys make that much.
    Milton? nope
    CTL Trans? hell now
Superior? nope, unless it is your truck
    Schneider Bulk? nope

Averitt Express has a terminal there in Orlando. They have pretty good home time. They also have regional, dedicated and local. You might want to check into them?

I would not recommend Heartland Express, at least not at the Phoenix base. They have no miles and don't care if you sit away from home for no pay. I left them in Feb and can not believe how much I put up with working for them. Stay far away from these guys, 1 1/2 years of my life was wasted thinking they actually valued my services.
