Not that i would want to argue it out right at a state scale, but wouldn't that be considered the "nearest" scale? And by scaling there you would be doing your best to keep an overweight vehicle off the road... and its free! If you don't get the ticket.... hehehe

I just heard one driver remark, after getting his weights, "####, we are 9000 over on the drives!" Not sure what he had loaded, maybe he was a heavy braker and all his cattle were now up front...

That'll keep you from lifting the wrong lid for a tasty snack in the middle of the night.
Let's just say- "trust me, it's good advice" and leave it at that.. -
White castles, Wendys chili, Couple of hard boiled eggs, and 3 cans of Budweiser, Will gauratee to get rid of the trainer.
I just couldn`t handle a guy watching over me for a month. -
I thought that was what my trainer at the morning I met him? Thought it was gonna be a long 4-6 weeks, and it was, but all in all after all the bitc-- and complaining, it was a very good learning process for me, ya we had our moments but I made it through and am glad I never have to do it again,

All good info, much appreciated! Another noob question..... do few, many, most companies order trucks with generators? Seems cheaper to run that than the main engine....
-
2 i dont think a portapoty is necessary, worst case theres always the second tree on the left, just always carrie a roll of tp for emergencies or the rest stops that run out.
3, from what ive been told kenworth is the high end, havent gotten to drive one though, and in my oppinon the low end are internationals, just got driving a brand new 2011 pro star, and the thing had to go back to the dealer with a list of issues (my trainers truck so i dont have to deal with it any more) Freightliners are nice.
4, honestly dont know
5, depends on the company
6, you'll know if the load might be questionable depending on its weight, but when in doubt always scale it before crossing a dot scale, maybe if you got pulled over for something and they had a portable scale a weighed it, then maybe you could talk your way out of an over weight ticket,
as for the generators or apu's. depends on the company, and sometimes the truck. the company i work for has a lot of trucks with apu's, some with out, and the new international prostars use a second battery system instead the run the bunk heater, ac and 12v plugs.Fatback Thanks this. -
I assume you are talking about APU's (Auxilary Power Units). These run heat and air conditioning and keep batteries charged. Some produce 120 VAC too. And the answer is no most don't have them. My gut tells me less than half and many companies don't want you idling either.Fatback Thanks this. -
Just talked with a driver from Heartland he said no APU's and they even do not want invertors in the trucks, instant termination, and they still hammer your arse about idling . I know we want it all but jeez no idling, apu or invertors? Cheap cheap cheap
Fatback Thanks this. -
Also, here in VT we have a general anti idling law. I wonder if that applies to truckers sleeping in the back... will have to look that one up...
