The air chuck that comes with it is cheap chinese junk. I could have easily made my own. I bought it because I needed one and the convenience was there. I think I paid $25 or $27 for mine. To make my own would have cost what,.. $10 - $12? Its not going to make or break me. And yes,.. I had to replace the chuck anyway,.. so I've got at least $30 into it now. (Chuckle).
I agree with your sentiment. But for the same reason Walmart prospers and smaller more friendly and personal small guys go under is why there will always be entrepreneurs selling us things we can make or get somewhere else cheaper. The convenience and our own laziness will out weigh logic every time.

The Loves hose is 29.99 and is lighter and rolls up better than a real rubber hose and by the reviews it is durable.
.
Now I can take the rubber hose I've had for years out of this truck and use it in my shop, buy the new hose with Loves points and write the cost off my taxes. winning -
I guess that's part of my problem. When I'm out and about and something piques my interest, I start looking it over to see how difficult it would be to make it better suit my needs. Very rarely is anything JUST the way I want it, so even when I DO buy something off the shelf, there's usually some level of modification involved.
JPenn Thanks this. -
I bought 2 with points.
Replaced both chucks. $7 a piece I think they were. -
Bought one when I came back from a 2 week vacation to discover the truck I shared with another driver had a steer down to 80 psi. I don't think he did an inspection the entire time I was gone.
I replaced the Chuck on mine too. Seems to be a recurring theme.tucker Thanks this. -
I bought the good kind that shops use. I no longer have to fight the chuck to put air in tire. It stays on.

I bought a good rubber air hose from hardware store. Then got a good air chuck- long so you can get way in with crawling on the ground and the chuck stays on the valve stem without you having to hold on to it. That and the glad hand from the NAPA store, all for under $30. Have had it for @15 years with no problems.

I was given one by a fellow car hauler, it's got a bright orange hose, glad hand, and air chuck.
It works well so far I'll ask him where he got it.
I didn't see any brand name anywhere on the thing, it might be home built. -
The cheap PVC hoses will crack when temperatures get below zero. Buy the neon hose, upgrade the chuck. The neon hoses are sold at many truck stops, not just Love's.
tscottme Thanks this. -
I would love to have a gladhand air hose with pressure gauge built in. I don't care if it's pencil-style or steam gauge, or even digital. I'd like to avoid the air-check-air-check-A - i - r -r-r-r-r-r-r-r-, check, air some more.
